Default The Sanford and Son ep without Sanford or Son

The episode begins with Grady speaking to Rollo, Fred and Lamont are evidently out looking for Grady, and are not seen at all on this episode......its the one where Grady buys the "tasteless" oil painting......(Howard Hessman apeared ....aka Dr. Johnny Fever)my all time least favorite episode....................................why?

For a pilot it is not bad- Grady was the best of Fred's friends and if I had seen this episode in the 70s I would've watched the spinoff series. Joe Morton, Howard Hesseman and Fritzi Burr all in one place makes for good TV. I prefer this to any of the 9 episodes that Grady was in when Redd Foxx had his contract dispute.

while I agree that the writing wasn't bad in this ep, and it did include a strong supporting cast, (Haywood Nelsons debut before "WHATS HAPPENING") it wasn't billed as a pilot for "GRADY".....fans (in the 70s and beyond) tune in to see Sanford & Son.... but only see Fred and Lamont on the opening, and closing credits....a rip-off IMO....

This is one of those eps that should defintely be taken out of Syndication because like you said the fact that there is no Lamont or Fred makes it a strange episode to watch. Also why were Grady and Rollo in the Sanford home and Lamont or Fred was not there?-lol
