Jack Valenti's prognosis has been rated G for "good."
The former president of the Motion Picture Association of America has been receiving treatment for a stroke he suffered on Friday, March 23, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 85-year-old had initially gone in to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore to see an eye specialist, who informed him that he had experienced a stroke. Valenti is expected to remain hospitalized for at least two weeks. "His family tells me that the doctors are encouraged by his progress to date," says Barry Meyer, Valenti's close friend and the Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. "[Valenti's wife] Mary Margaret and his children have asked me to express their deep appreciation of the outpouring of love, support and prayers. Out of respect for Jack and the family's privacy, we are not going to release any additional information at this time." Valenti resigned from his position as a "special assistant" to Lyndon Johnson's White House to become the MPAA chief in 1966. Soon afterwards, he created the film rating system that is used today. In August 2004, he stepped down and was replaced by Dan Glickman. Valenti's latest book, "The Time, This Place: My Life in War, the White House, and Hollywood," is scheduled for release in June. |
