Default Am I the only one who GIVES UP when out bidded on a Ebay Item?

I just don;t want to get involved in a bidding war, i just always hope what I made a bid on no one else wants. But as soon as I see that outbid notice, I just move one because I don;t like the back and forth thing at all. Anyone give up when outbidded on ebay?

It depends on the item, If it's very common and likely to show up again, I'll wait until another one is listed. If it's a rarity such as the Dick Clark signed movie poster I got last week then I'll bid until I get it. If I don't get it, At least I have the satisfaction of knowing that I made someone pay for it.

If searching for an item, My advice would be to check out the buy it now listings first from lowest price to highest. Alot of Ebay users will list stuff with no idea what it's worth because they don't bother using the completed items search feature. With this, You can see what a particular item sold for and how much it brought. It's great if you have the same item and want to sell it. If the buy it now listings have a best offer option, Submit one but be serious about it. I had some video game guides on there for 3.99 and some clown wanted to insult my intelligence by offering me a penny for them.

I usually stay at the top bid that I placed. I rarely go higher.

Depends on how bad I want it. If it's common, I'll move on. Rare, I'll be one of those ******* last minute bidders. lol

I don't bid at Ebay very often, but when I do and I'm outbid, I rarely give up. I'll usually just wait until there's only a couple minutes left, and outbid them at the very last minute. That way they don't have time to outbid me again. Sneaky I know, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I usually make my first bid fairly low, then I wait to see if someone tops it. (By doing that, I ensure not letting something slip by that I could have had for a song.)

I then hold back and bid my maximum as the auction nears its closing time -- unless of course other bidders have already exceeded my max.

In most auctions, I'll just let it go.

There is, however, one notable exception in which I am absolutely unrelenting. Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson episodes. Once upon a time, I lost an auction for the last 10 shows from original broadcast with commercials, figuring they'd be relisted.

They never were. I've since gotten the last ep from OB w/ C, and the next to last episode is on the Carson DVD set for the most part, but still.

When it comes to those auctions, since then, I'm absolutely relentless - if it's an episode I don't have, I *will* do what it takes. I love that show (God only help us all if the rights holders actually released full episodes on DVD one day)

Yeah but if try to do that you still may not get it because their maximum bid maybe higher than that last bid you try to put in.

That's true, that has happened to me quite a few times. Under those circumstances, I'll eventually give up. Once the price starts getting up toward what it would cost to buy the item brand new, bidding becomes kind of stupid.

That's when I just purposely bump up the price so the other person has to pay more.

Cept once when I did that, I went too high and ended paying like $90 for the complete Magician series on VCD. Which was fine, just more than I wanted to pay. lol
