YouTube and Walt Disney... I am so over this!

Back story, in the last 2 weeks I have posted about 100(yes 100, lol) relatively short clips(usually 2-3 minutes max, no more than 6) from Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy. Other people do it, got no warnings about it at all, so I assumed there was no problem. Well I log on to find my account suspended tonight... I got two of these emails late this afternoon, both videos were posted this weekend(about 75 of the 100 had been posted days and even up to a week before that), well apparently Disney cherry picks TWO of them, again, some of the most recent ones and now my account, which was going well(86 subscribers) is suspended for good.

Dear Member:

This is to notify you that we have removed or disabled access to the following material as a result of a third-party notification by The Walt Disney Company claiming that this material is infringing:

Anyone else face a similar experience?

Apparently I can't post ANYTHING from a TV show, even though hundreds if not thousands of other people do...

End of

I'm sorry. I don't know much about infringement or copyrights, personally I'm all for following rules and all. But Copyrights, just seem to vague and arbitrary. That sounds like harassment, to me.

Probably wrong. Doesn't matter. The whole youtube/copyright issue makes me uncomfortable. I like watching things I can't see anywhere else. I don't have tv anymore and I like it that way. Keeps the commercials away from me. Perhaps that's the problem.

Money...

I bet it is money.

That's sad really, because youtube seems like good free advertising to me. And I love seeing tv stuff there, new or old.

But if you're going to scold one, you scold them all. That's learned on the playground in elementary school!

Warner Bros., Paramount, etc and DLT even removed clips. So, it is basically everyone.

Ultimately, there's too much of a perceived profit motive behind it all not to try to control distribution of things like this.

It's nothing personal on their part against you - but from their viewpoint, they're not making money on something that - at least in their head - they could be, regarding something they own.

Ultimately, however, now that people have gotten used to this idea of the material being out there, it'll find it's way back - information wanting to be free and all that.

See there's my issue with Disney. That they would pick certain ones and not others. The whole reason I posted clips in the first place is because other people have done it and there was no problem, so I thought it was OK.

My issue with YouTube is that they would suspend the account without warning. I would have stopped posting them had I known there was an issue. I've already contacted them to see if they open it back up.

Geez....well, what good is YouTube anyway? I don't want to see video clips or photo montages of my favorite sitcoms being ruined by some lame modern song for some slideshow. Ugh.... It's going down!

Right, that was my whole reason for going to Youtube, to watch shows that I hadn't seen in years. It's seems like ever since Google got their hands on Youtube, it's been one thing after another

I just tried to watch a bunch of Grey's videos last night that were removed because of Disney, actually. It's annoying.

once the copyrighted clips go, YouTube goes. i dont get why networks are so angry about it...if anything it gives them more promotion.

They want you to view their clips on their websites. abc.com, nbc.com, fox.com and cbs.com all have major video programs now.

ok...this is the most pathetic thing i've ever heard.

MADtv uploads their sketches to YouTube and has an official uploading account...and YouTube suspended their account for violating copyright rules, which is amazing since the sketches they uploaded where their own. HOW IS THAT VIOLATING COPYRIGHT RULES WHEN THEY OWN THE RIGHTS. *_*

It's absolutely ridiculous, no one is making any money off the clips or claiming them as their own, so I don't see where copyright infringement is.

uploading copyrighted content is against youtube's policy whether it's ridiculous or not... don't cry and act like it's their fault if you violate it. just because you see other copyrighted stuff on there doesn't mean that youtube won't reprimand them either. there are thousands upon thousands of copyrighted videos on there, more and more being added every minute. i'm sure they're going as fast as they can.... they can't get ahold all of the violating users in the same second.
