I wonder why the producers decided after 6-7 episodes to switch back to the season 6 theme music? And then in syndication they decided to use a shortened version of season 7's theme on all of season 8's episodes? just weird thinking......

I think that it could have been due to negative fan reaction to the S7 opening/closing theme song or the producers just decided that they didn't want to use the new version anymore and brought back the S6 theme. I do remember that during the original S7 and S8 on ABC,that they used both the long and short version of the S6/S8 opening and sometimes even the short version of the S7 saucier theme, which did show up in syndication.
As for using the short opening in syndication,it of course was to make room for more commercials. When WFLD,ch 32 in Chicago(before they were owned by Fox)aired the syndicated reruns, they had their own edited version of the opening and closing. They edited down the S1 opening and closing to about less then 30 seconds for the S1 to S4 episodes, edited down the S4 opening for S5 episodes(with Jenilee Harrison edited in)and used an edited version of the S6 opening for the S6 to S8 episodes. WFLD did this for years(and I hated it!)until they finally restored the correct syndicated versions of opening/closing themes in early 1991. TBS only aired the short syndicated opening themes,so the longer S2 to S6 and S8 openings were seen for the first time since the original ABC run when Nick At Nite started airing TC in 2000. I don't think that NAN/TV Land have ever showed the short lived longer S7 opening, which of course is on the S7 DVD. |

WBRZ in Baton Rouge also did edited openings of Three's Company as well as The Jeffersons--I thought that was so irritating.
I also recall NaN airing the first season theme song (the one with the more tropical flavor) over many second season episodes! |
