Mostly I don't think it's ever a good idea. Dennis the Menace, The Beverley Hillbillies, X Files... it rarely works.

The one exception I can think of is The Addams Family. I think that movie was even more fun than the original show. The sequal was even better.

I was really disappointed in the Bewitched movie. While I appreciate that they tried to do something different (making the movie about a new Bewitched TV series), Bewitched is so trenched in romantic fantasy it is one of the few TV shows that could get away with a straight remake. I think Nora Ephron had some good ideas (i.e. Michael Caine as the Maurice-like warlock father), but the execution was all garbled.

But who could really live up to Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York as the most romantic couple, anyway??

I liked the Dennis the Menace movie when I was a kid, but now that I'm an adult I don't anymore. So I can honestly say I do not have a favorite movie based on a TV show.

The Brady Bunch is the only one I can think of that was actually great and made $$$$. I can't think of any other that did both.

You know, I'd forgotten about The Brady Bunch Movie. It WAS funny and made some good cash. Didn't care for the sequel, though...

Same here. The first one was the best one.

I quite agree. I was SOOOOOOOOOO !@#$%^&*(%$# mad with the result of the Dukes of Hazzard movie, I didn't even go to see it and i'm a HUGE Hazzard freak! but it really discusted me, who they casted you know.
now, the Beverly Hillibillie movie SO funny!!
not saying it was very much like the show, but i personally found it slightly hilarious!
now... i really don't support those movies...
unless... they made a gilligan's island movie! but i swear, if they make ginger or maryann blonde, i will boycott, if the skipper isn't fat and jolly enough, i will boycott, if the professor isn't nerdy... I WILL BOYCOTT!!!!!!!!
if his socks don't show because his pants aren't short and nerdy...
I WILL CRY!
i'm so normal aren't i????

The Dennis The Menace and The Addams Family movies were based more on their original comic incarnations than the television series.

You know, I did like the Beverly Hillbillies. I mean, not a great movie, but it amused me. But as far as being as good as the original show - I don't think it came anywhere near (that's why I put it on my list). I wonder if they'll ever get around to a Gilligan movie. They've been talking about it for years (same with I Dream of Jeannie). Kinda doubt it'll ever really happen.

For the most part movies based on tv shows have sucked. The only ones I liked were the Brady Bunch Movies, The Addams Family movies, The Fugitive and Mission Impossible. I just pray that the Dallas movie never happens as it looks worst everytime I read about it.

Bewitched was okay
Beverly Hillibilies
Dukes of Hazzard
Brady Bunch
And the Facts of Life Reunion wasnt that bad, would've been so much better if Nancy McKean would've come back but still good.
