I've noticed that several people here took images from the UM videos I put on YouTube and put them into your avatar.
Could you tell me how you did that? Heck, how do you put pics on your avatar at tall? And does anyone know how to put pictures in a post? Sorry for the annoying questions. I was curious. |

For instance I went to google images and typed in "Roxanne Jeeves" and was able to find the picture that is my current avatar. Click on larger image and then copy the url. Then go to your screen that has your private messages inbox and click on "edit avatar" and chose "use custom avatar". Where it says "enter avatar url" paste the link to the google image you want to be your avatar. Then click save changes and the google image you chose should be your new avatar. Like I said I only really know how to attach a picture that I have found online to be my avatar but I'm sure there are a lot of people here who can tell you more about attaching a screen shot or something they've uploaded to their computer. Hope this helps. |

For my beloved "Megadeth Guy" avatar, I simply paused the video at the spot where I wanted it and took a screen capture. You can do this simply by holding down the alt key and then pressing the print key on your keyboard. Then you can open up any image editing program such as paint and just paste the image into the program. From there I just cut out the part of the image that I wanted and saved it to my hard drive and uploaded it to photobucket and set it to be my avatar here. If you have trouble with any of that and can't figure it out, let me know and I'll be glad to make and avatar for you if you'd like.

Thanks for the replies. I doubt I'm smart enough to do everything Dislimb said but I'll give it a try.

Well, I can detail the procedure I used on a Mac. A partial screen capture is done by pressing these keys: Apple + Shift + 4. That turns the cursor into a box tool. You can highlight the area you want to capture. That turns in into an image called Picture 1, or Picture 2, etc. In my case it shows up on the Desktop. I forget if you have to press Enter to get the image to show up, or if it merely does it automatically when you finish the box and let go of the cursor. I don't do it very often.
The image is in PDF format. I can view it at that point but it won't upload to avatar via this site or others. So I had to use Preview, the version from Tiger, to choose Save As and change the file to JPEG. At that point it will open via Preview like a normal picture and I upload them here. BTW, that hamburger picture was available on both segments that dynoguy uploaded to YouTube. The little girl was mostly baffled in segment one without much of a facial expression. I almost used that picture for the screen capture but on segment two she smiled at the very end of the brief clip so I froze the screen at that point and used it. Resurrection Mary was much more annoying. There wasn't a good full screen closeup picture of her on UM. I finally had to freeze it on the image when she is visible through the back window. Then when I used the Apple + Shift + 4, I drew the box inside the window of the car so the sections of the car wouldn't be visible in the avatar. |

Okay... what's Dynoguy going to put for his avatar?
I'm throwing it out there: Dennis Depue.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention one thing. Using that Apple + Shift + 4 turns the cursor into something that looks exactly like Zodiac's symbol. Kind of creepy.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if I couldn't even get a pic on there. So we'll see what happens. |

Press PRINT SCREEN on the keyboard, then edit the screen shot in Microsoft Paint and save the image as a jpeg file. The upload the image and use it as the avatar.
