When I was nine, my family traveled by car to Mexico. It took three days. It was approximately 1500 miles.
In 2005, me and my boyfriend, my girls and our son traveled by car to Seattle Washington. I WON'T FLY! So, we went by car. It took us two days to get there. It was approximately 1150 miles from our city to Seattle. We also drove to the Canadian border. We took the I-5 on our way to Seattle and on our way home we traveled down Highway 1. |

At least 8 hours to and from New York City. My brother-in-law drove and on the way back he was getting tired. My sister took over from that point on because he was nodding off at the wheel.

12 1/2 hours from Great Falls, MT to go back home. (this was in bad weather - in better weather, it takes about eight to nine hours to get there)

13 hours from home to North Carolina's Outer Banks. We went in May and the
ocean was still cold. But people were going out in it so we did too. |

Ha! I think I have all of you beat. I have driven from New Mexico to Mexico City. It took us just about 48 hours to drive all the way down there. This includes rest stops, lunch, breakfast, dinner, and visiting my aunt's sister's family (no relation to me). I really don't like super long car trips, but I thought it was cool to experience driving through Mexico. I have never driven for so many hours to another country, and it was quite an experience.

Still, your car trip sounds just like the one we took. It was in 1974 when I was 9 and there were no hand held computer games, no DVD player in the car, no walkmans, nothing! I took a lot of books to read though. The sights along the way were very beautiful.

In 2000 my roommate and I went out to the southwest for a friend's wedding in Arizona.
We arrived in Las Vegas a week before the wedding, rented a car and drove all over Nevada, New Mexico, And Arizona. I kept track of the milage and mapped out the trip on a road atlas. Lots of miles. Our average speed was 100 MPH. |

New Jersey to California, staying with relatives, and then back.
When I was still younger. We took route 80 through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and into Sacramento, CA.--took a left on hwy 99 and down to Modesto where my uncle, aunt and cousins lived, stayed there a while, then drove south to LA to visit other relatives in Pasadena. Then we headed for Las Vegas, then southern Utah, back up to Salt Lake City--back onto Interstate 80 and back to New Jersey. That's the trip I referred to on another thread where we made it from Lincoln, Nebraska home to Essex Co., New Jersey in approximately 35 hours. To quote Mr. Stefani, "Never again" (My dad loved driving, but honestly we all wanted to get home.) |
