Default Shows OR movies where the characters were watching television and...

you would see a real tv show being aired on the television or the characters mentioned what they were watching:

KING OF QUEENS: The episode "Bed Spread" Doug and Carrie are watching THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW in their bedroom.

Wasn't there an episode of Happy Days with Mork and The Andy Griffith Show was on? Mork said, I Like that Boy, Opie or something like that.

There is an episode of Sister, Sister where the twins are watching TV. The announcer (who is obviously the same guy who did the ABC announcements) says, "And now on Fox, South Central...it's Full House in the hood!"

South Central was a real show, wasn't it??

I just thought of one. There's an ep. of The Golden Girls where Rose and Blanche watch an I Love Lucy marathon.

Rose:If Lucy played Lucy, why didn't they let Desi play Desi?
Blanche(exasperated):He wasn't tall enough!

once on "Sienfeld", George and Susan are watching "Mad about you".
on "Alf" once, Alf and the little boy-I forget his name-are watching "Gilligans Island"

On "Cheers" once, Frasier and some of the others are watching GI also.
Another time, the're watching "This old house".

On "The Honeymooners" episode "TV or not TV"* (that's the one where Ralph and Ed agree to split the cost of a TV and share it) Ed Norton's watching the show "Captain Video".

On "All in the Family" once, Archie asks Edith what channel Walter Cronkite's on. Edith tells him, then says "That's the channel we don't watch, because you say Walter Cronkite's a pinko".

On "Happy Days" once, Richie and some others are watching "American Bandstand". Another time, on an early first season episode (before it turned into "The Fonzie show") Joanie says she wants to stay up and "hear Groucho say the secret word" (that's a refrence to the quiz show "You Bet Your Life" that Groucho Marx hosted back then).

*that was the first of the fimed episodes-known as "the classic 39".

There was a Family Ties episode where Mallory was watching CHiPS. And another one where Steven had flashbacks of his family watching Milton Berle.

On The Dick Van Dyke Show, Rob was on a talk show and he said a few things
about Laura that wasn't too good. When the show aired he tried many funny ways to keep Laura from seeing it.

that doesn't count; since that interview show wasn't a real show.

But you're right; that is a funny one. "Ray Murdochs X-Ray".
