Damn, he scored 65 points, and it took them an overtime to beat the Blazers?? If they can barely get past Portland when Kobe scores 65, then I really can't see them going very far in the playoffs. I think they'll be extremely lucky to get out of the first round.

They will be out of luck cause they'll probably end up playing the following teams Dallas, Phoenix, or San Antonio. It'll be pretty fun to see the lakers match up with the spurs again, like they did so much during the shaq era.

Amazingly, Wilt retired 34 years ago, and he STILL has more 60 point games than everyone else in the history of the NBA COMBINED!

"The field" has almost caught up with him though. I think that when Arenas scored 60+ earlier this season, it put Wilt in the lead something like 32-27 or 32-28.

(I think that this was also true of 50 point games for almost 20 years after Wilt retired...it took the rest of the NBA players that long to produce as many 50 point games as Wilt did in his career).

Wilt's competition is far tougher than anything Shaq, for example, ever had to face.

Bill Russell was the greastest defensive player in history. And Wilt had to play against him 142 times in their 10 year rivalry.

And, with fewer teams back then, Wilt didn't just have to play a guy twice in one season, as is the case now for players in opposite conferences.

btw, if Ewing ever went against Willis Reed head to head, Reed would have DESTROYED him!

Where's Shaq's competition? Eddy Curry? ooooo, I'll bet Wilt would have been scared to go against big Eddy!

Plus, Wilt never had the luxury of playing against high school players. Today, the NBA is full of "great athletes" who don't know a thing about how to play basketball...that's why we send these guys to the Olympics and they embarrass themselves and our country by bringing home bronze medal.

In fact, we shouldn't even allow today's NBA players to wear a "USA" jersey...it's just too embarrassing!

The NBA has two centers today who've locked up a spot in the Hall of Fame...Shaq, and Tim Duncan.. Ben Wallace has no shot.

No one is that good to score over 60 32 times and a 100 point game. No team would ever allow one player to score that many points today

No player today has the stamina that would be required to do those things. Wilt averaged 45.6 min/game over the course of his career. He even averaged 48.5 min/game during one season (he only sat out 8 minutes of one game, the result of being ejected, and played every second of each of the other 79 games that year, including all overtime periods).

His endurance was far superior to anyone who ever played ANY team sport. You would need an incredible amount of stamina to score 70 or 80 points in a game, in any era, let alone 100.... David Robinson said that the most exhausted he's ever felt was the night he scored 71 in the final game of the season. And he was a great, great athlete...And he was still 29 points away from the record. Plus, the opponent was helping him get there (because they didn't want Shaq to win the scoring title that season).

Do you know anything about the guys I listed? I'm not asking this to be insulting, don't get me wrong... but just watching ESPN is a terrible way to learn about the history of ANY sport. ESPN promotes today's players, because that's where the money is for them.

You'd be surprised how many young fans out there think that the six rings won by Michael Jordan is an all time record. When I say young, I mean high school age or younger...although there are a number of fans in their 20s who think the same thing, since they grew up watching Jordan.
