Default Why does Fox not do well with Sitcoms?

These are the only long lasting Fox sitcoms I can think of

Married With Children
Malcolm in the Middle
Martin
Living Single
That 70's Show
Bernie Mac

I guess American Idol, Family Guy merchandise, and sports make up most of their profits

That's an impressive list for Fox, considering back in the days it was all abt ABC, NBC and CBS.

Til Death and War at Home will probably join the long list of cancelled Fox sitcoms

The other networks have a very long list of short-lived and cancelled shows as well.

But the other networks (ABC, NBC, CBS) have a longer history than Fox.

Hello...that is why in my first post I said that's an impressive list for Fox, in other words, Fox has not been on the air as long as the other stations, so Fox has done impressively well and have made their mark.

It's been on the air for 20 years, and a competitive network since it got football, that list should be longer. Does anyone even remember most of that list of canceled Fox shows that was mentioned on Family Guy

Fox mostly ruins its sitcoms ratings when they clash with Football and Baseball.

I can't think of any current Fox sitcom that has been on for more than 2 seasons. War@Home and Til Death will probably get canceled.

But there are only a few long lasting Fox sitcoms and so many there were cancelled after a short period

Don't forget the Simpsons, which is the longest running prime time comedy, having premiered in 1989 (WOW!). I agree that AI hogs up WAY too much airtime, and that's why they air a new ep of House about once every 3 weeks!!! GRRRR...

I guess because people are creatures of habit. People are more loyal to the "Big 3" because of their longevity.

Add to the fact that a lot of their shows get preempted by sports or American Idol.

Exactly. There is not a lot of room for sitcoms when there those kind of shows, not to mention the other kind of programming like 24, House, Prison Break, which are doing great for Fox. Why mess with a good thing? You also have the new stuff like the game show with the fifth graders which has done enormously well.

So, big deal if there are no new sitcoms, whatever makes ratings is what matters.

Sitcoms across the board aren't doing well, with the exception of a very few.
