Default Mr. Cheever--Mooney's commanding naval officer?

In one ep when Mooney goes into the naval reserve and Lucy follows him and there Roy Roberts plays Mooney's commanding officer. At first I thought Roberts was playing already Cheever (the president of the bank Mooney and Lucy work at) and he and Mooney were called into the reserve at the same time. Then I realized Roberts was actually playing Mooney's commading officer who was not Cheever! Should they have been consistent (after Roberts was cast as Cheever) and said that when Cheever goes into the reserve he deliberately forgets he knows Mooney in civilian life and acts rough and naval like so he can perform his job efficiently (course if the naval commander was bank president gone naval how come he didn't recognize Lucy?)?

I remember Roy Roberts also showed up in the two part Here's Lucy episode where Craig joins the Air-Force. I wonder if he was actually in the military?

Wasn't that submarine filmed before any of the episodes where he played Mr. Cheever? I know he never appeared as Mr. Cheever in the fourth season, and that episode was fairly early in the fifth season. So I don't think the Cheever role had been created yet. This kind of thing happens a lot in series TV. For example, Paul Lynde appeared on "Bewitched" as a moral driving instructor before he ever appeared as Samantha's Uncle Arthur.

Yeah, Nova. Roberts palyed Cheever after he played the navy guy. I wished the writers (after he was cast Cheever) had said that when he's in the service with Mooney he pretends he doesn't know him.

I was just watching this episode and caught something curious. In an early scene after Mr. Mooney leaves for his naval duty, Lucy is still in the office and the phone rings. And it's Mr. Cheever on the phone! I think this may be the first time the Mr. Cheever character is ever mentioned on the show. I just find it curious that in the same episode he is first mentioned, Roy Roberts appears but he's playing another character.
