Have you ever explored a cave? I've been in a couple and luckily never ran into any trouble. But they can be dangerous as the story below shows.
There was a article in our paper about 4 men exploring a cave in Maynardville. One of the men fell & was seriously injured when his rope broke & he fell 30 feet hit a ledge, then fell about 30 more feet. He had to be lifted out in a basket by the fire & resue squad. He was listed in serious condition with many injuries, including a head injury. |

I have always wanted too, for many years I was into climbing and rappelling but never got the chance to doing any real spelunking. The hobby got quite expensive and the guy I used to go climbing with moved away so have not really done anything serious in several years.
Any sport is dangerous, some more that others but if you have the proper training and equipment it is really no more3 dangerous than driving to work. |

Incidentally, the official term for cave exploring is "caving" or "spelunking."
I've always wanted to do it, but I don't think there are any large caves in my area (small ones at most). It can be dangerous as everyone knows. |

I went when I was a teenager, all we took with us was some rope, flashlights,
and some army canteens filled with water. I guess we were lucky to have not had any mishaps. |

The closest I came was visiting the Caverns, which is near Columbus, OH. That was back in 1993. It was fun, except you weren't allowed to touch!!

I visited a cave park here in Texas a few years ago. Can't remember the name but it is going towards Austin. All I remember is how hot it was underground.

Guess that cave is forgettable! ![]() That name doesn't sound familiar; I had pics of it but burned them along with all the ones of my x husband.

Once I visited Sqaws cave.. It was interesting... Ya couldnt go in much as it was blocked by fallen rocks... I would have loved going past that and see how far down it went!!
I like stuff like that... One time in NY I visited a cave called HOWE CAVERENS.. I hear they have since ruined it,I dunno.. Thats more of a mainstream cave anyway.. Nothing special about visiting those! |
