i was wondering folks where the show went downhill and resulted in caroline in the city being cancelled. for me, it was the impending arrival of randy and the downward spiral of caroline and richard's relationship in the last season which were the final nails in the coffin. i have always loved CITC- i will always be a fan until the day i die, but the last few episodes of the last season were not just painful to watch, it was the final insult to fans of the show and of caroline and richard as a couple. for me, the bad writing of most of those season 4 episodes was what done it for CITC. likewise, stupid storylines such as richard discovering he is the father to julia's child and randy's appearance killed the show .as for the ending, well it was terrible to watch and i'll never forgive the writers for ending it with a cliffhanger. i could never fault the performances of lea, malcolm, andy, amy and eric- they were fab throughout the four seasons and they are not and were not to blame for it being cancelled. a lot of CITC fans disliked the 3rd season a lot, but i thought it was good, whilst i enjoyed some of the season 4 episodes involving the main couple, caroline and richard. but otherwise, i believed the show failed to fulfil its own potential, which is a crying shame. even though it's my favourite as i said before, the last few episodes in season 4, inc. the last ever episode, were a cruel betrayal of what the show initially stood for from the start. what do you think?

I didn't mind the romance between Richard & Caroline but I thought it just happened a bit too quickly - maybe they could have developed it over 3 or 4 seasons. I also thought the way the writers handled the Richard & Caroline relationship could have been better - I mean if Richard managed to have a successful relationship with Julia, I cannot fathom why he would struggle to have one with Caroline. Also the last season move from the house/loft to the office totally failed.

koua555: i kind of agree with you but i also disagree with you in regards to what you posted here. for me it was great to watch caroline and richard as a couple as i had always wanted them to get it together and fall in love with each other, although i disliked the episodes where they had argued too much and the problems that they had towards the very end of the final series. for me that was just unneccessary and so silly. but i for one wasn't laughing but rather i was saddened and dissapointed by what i saw. if anything the writers had lost the plot. yes caroline and richard are two different types of people but they were not too different from each other insomuch as say like dharma and greg who were VERY different as characters and personality-wise from each other. it seems to me as if the writers went as far away as they did with their relationship and did whatever they could to prevent them from being happy and loving with and towards each other. the lack of development towards the characters caroline and richard was one of the major downfalls made by the writers. i also hated the office and as for getting rid of remo, well that was a big mistake as well
peter: you are entitled to your opinion, i cannot argue with that chocolate moose: i've heard of the drew carey show although i've never watched it myself but i can understand where you are coming from |
