Question Do You Think What I Did Was Wrong?

Okay guys I have a dilema. Tonight my sister was dogsitting at my father's sister's house and right next door is my father's aunt so they saw each other. While they were talking, my sister mentioned my brother is autistic and she rolled her eyes and said yeah right, no he's not. That really hurt my sister and called us to come get her but didn't tell us why. When we got there she wasn't outside so I went to go get her and she told me what I happened. I got mad and went over to my aunt's house asked my Aunt about it. This is how the conversation went.

Me: May I talk to you?
Aunt: Sure.
Me: What do you think you're doing?
Aunt: Excuse me?
Me: Telling Erin Sean isn't Austic?
Aunt: Well how am I supposed to know I don't see him.
Me: And who's fault is that?
Aunt: Get lost Kelly.

She turned around and walked back to the kitchen where everyone including my Dad was sitting in the kitchen listening and I slammed out of the house. When I got in the car I just started to cry. Half because I never got thrown out of a house before lol and half because my sister was mad. She liked dogsitting to get extra money and now she's afraid they won't ask her to do it anymore.

Do you think what I did was the right thing to do?

Hell no. The nerve of someone, especially a relative to imply that someone is or isn't autistic. And her lame ass excuse that "she didn't know"...SO FRIGGIN' WHAT??? That was soooo rude of her.

I admire that you had to guts to say what was on your mind to her face; rather than simply complaining about it in private to other family members. Yes. You did good.

Thanks everyone. My mother is extremely proud of me too. I guess I am still in shock that I did that. It was just reaction, like when you pull your hand away from a hot stove. It's 3:34am where I live and I can't sleep. I keep replaying her saying "Get lost" in my head over and over and over and over and over......

I have an aunt just like that. In fact, I've got several extended family members who are essentially wasting space. Just one reason I'm not close to most of them. I'm only close to my immediate family and an Aunt and a couple cousins.

Thanks everyone! Last night I didn't get to sleep till 5:30am but I do not regret it one bit. I would do anything for my brother. Thanks again everyone! I guess I was second guessing myself because I acted that way towards family.

And yes, this family was estranged for people who didn't know. We just started talking to them again a few months ago, but they haven't seen my brother. We won't allow it and thank god we didn't.

Oh No

Sure sounded right on to me. I don't know the background, but nobody has the right to judge anyone like that unless they're certified and have tested and examined them.
SHE'S the one who was rude, and trust me, I'm sure anyone who overheard that, or if she filled them all in once you left, is going to think that too - they might not say it to her, but she really made herself look ignorant.
You're a good sister - not only to your sister, but standing up for your brother also.
If your sister isn't asked back, she can always post flyers in your neighbourhood advertising that she'll dogsit - plus with the experience she's had with her dad's dog, she can say she's experienced. I know I'd rather leave my dogs with her than your aunt!

Nope I agree. Its the older siblings job to protect the younger ones. I would have done the same thing.
