This topic got me thinking... I think I see a pattern:
A Country Girl (Grace Kelly's Oscar win) A Star is Born (Judy Garland's near-win) The Lost Weekend (Best Picture win) Days of Wine and Roses (Jack Lemmon's near-win) The Razor's Edge (Anne Baxter's win) The Thin Man (William Powell's first nomination) Giant (James Dean's posthumas nomination) All That Jazz (Best Picture nomination) Cabaret (definately came close to winning - danged Godfather!) Arthur (Dudley Moore's nomination) Yeah, the Academy Awards really seem to like those alcoholics
