First album you ever owned
The year was 1983 and my dad bought me a tape of Sheena Easton's Best Kept Secret from Newbury's. Great cheesy '80s album!!

Book of Dreams by The Steve Miller Band. I won it playing a radio station contest in 1977.

My first album I ever bought was At Your Birthday Party by Steppenwolf. It was after Christmas in 1975 and I bought it with the $5.00 my grandmother gave me as a present. I was 13 at the time. The album was in a discount record bin and I could easily afford it with change to spare, it was about $3.00. I was getting into music and Steppenwolf were the first band I really got into, even though this was a few years after they broke up. They were popular in the late 60's/early 70's with the hippie/biker crowd with "Born to Be Wild", "Magic Carpet Ride" and "The Pusher", with their psychedelic brand of hard rock, and by the time I bought the album, the whole music scene had changed. Everyone was getting into disco, and bands like Aerosmith, Sweet, and Queen were popular.
At Your Birthday Party came out in 1969 and featured songs like their hit "Rock Me", "Jupiter's Child", and "It's Never Too Late". But the album didn't change me like the album I would buy the following summer in 1976: Paranoid, by Black Sabbath. |

'Licensed to Ill' by The Beastie Boys
It was one of the first albums I remember listening to on a regular basis. The next albums I bought were 'Nevermind' by Nirvana and 'Ten' by Pearl Jam.

Probably one by Madonna or Paula Abdul on cassette. The first CD's I ever owned were Why Not Me by The Judds and Wynonna's self-titled album.

Can't remember which was first, but it was one of these:
LL Cool J - Walking With A Panther Ice Cube - Amerika's Most Wanted (I know, pretty hardcore for a 10 year old).
