Default Friends through friends

You know how sometimes people hang out in groups but aren't really friends with everyone in the group, they just hang out together? Do you think that the girls kind of did that just a little bit? For example, would Jo have been friends with Tootie if the whole expulsion thing didn't happen? or if Tootie wasn't connected to Blair?

Question

Hmmmmmmm...That's a good question.

I think Jo and Tootie were friends even before the explusion issue. Well, at least it seemed like it to me...And I'm having a hard time understading what you mean about JO not being friends with Tootie if Tootie wasn't connected to Blair...If Tootie wasn't connected to Blair...There would have been no point in keeping her for the rest of the seasons as one of the main characters of the show...I'm kinda confused about that...O_o

WELL, NAT & TOOT WERE BEST FRIENDS IN SEASON ONE, AND THEY WERE FRIENDS WITH BLAIR.

I THINK JO AND NAT WOULD HAVE BECOME FRIENDS, THEN TOOTIE BY ASSOCIATION. HOWEVER, I THINK JO ALWAYS LIKED NAT, SO I BELIEVE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN CLOSE.

BUT BLAIR WAS VERY INTO HER HOITY-TOITY FRIENDS, SO I DON'T KNOW IF SHE WOULD'VE HUNG OUT WITH NAT & TOOT AS MUCH.

I THINK IF NAT & TOOTIE WERE HANGIN OUT TOGETHER AND NAT INVITED JO OVER OR TO HANG OUT WITH THEM, SHE WOULD.

HOWEVER, IF BLAIR WAS INVITED BY NAT & TOOTIE, AND JO AS WELL, I THINK IT WOULDN'T TAKE LONG BEFORE JO MADE SOME COMMENT TO BLAIR, AND SAID," I'M OUTTA HERE!" THAT WOULD'VE BEEN THE END FOR ANY JO AND BLAIR FRIENDSHIP. YOU COULDN'T GET TWO MORE OPPOSITE PEOPLE!

ONLY WHEN ALL THE GIRLS WERE FORCED TO LIVE WITH EACH OTHER, UNDER MRS. G'S WATCHFUL EYE, COULD THEY REALLY START TO UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER AND DEVELOPE A CLOSE BOND AMONGST THEMSELVES COLLECTIVELY AND INDEPENDENTLY.

I KNOW MANY PEOPLE DON'T THINK JO AND BLAIR HAD MUCH OF A FRIENDSHIP, IF ANY FRIENDSHIP, BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY BANTERED. IN THE BEGINNING, IT WAS DIFFERENT, BUT THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, IT EVOLVED AS PART OF THEIR ENDEARING FRIENDSHIP. THEY TEASED EACH OTHER IN A WAY THAT WAS PERSONAL UNTO THEMSELVES, BUT BENEATH IT ALL, IT WAS IN A LOVING MANNER. BECAUSEE LET'S FACE IT, EITHER ONE OF THEM COULD HAVE LEFT YEARS AGO. BUT THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS, THEY LOVED EACH OTHER, IT WAS EVIDENT THOUGHOUT THE EPISODES IN A VARIETY OF WAYS.

AND WHAT A BEAUTIFUL THING FOR JO AND BLAIR TO, OVER THE YEARS, APPRECIATE ONE ANOTHER, BECOME EACH OTHER'S BEST ALLY, AND CLOSEST FRIEND, DESPITE THEIR BACKGROUNDS AND DIFFERENCES. THIS IS TRUE FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE, AND WHY I LOVE THEM AND LOVE WATCHING THEM SO. EXCUSE ME WHILE I GET A TISSUE

For me, the Jo/Blair relationship was what kept me tuning in. It was very complex and multi-layered, something most TV shows just don't get right. However, I don't know if Jo would have been friends with Tootie (well at least in the beginning) because she continually referred to her as "kid". In real life, the two I think would have formed a friendship was Natalie and Jo (although, of course Tootie would still be Nat's best friend).

I think that the Jo/Blair relationship is what makes the show so good. Well one of the more important reasons anyway.

The real question is, would Jo & Blair become friends if they weren't forced to share a room together. They had virtually NOTHING in common and was annoyed by each other the vast majority of the time. Of course they had their moments though.....

I think Jo/Tootie would have been friends. Their first impression with each other was pretty good unlike with the other girls. Jo said in an episode that Tootie is friends/accepting with anyone.

Jo sticks out like a sore thumb because of her background and her appearance and Tootie sticks out like a sore thumb because of her race. I think they would have eventually bonded with each other based off of them being different.

'Kid' is not really an insult though.....especially when Tootie was a lot younger than the rest of them. Of course Tootie took offense to it because she didn't like being treated like the youngest but she was! LOL.
