Default Underrated Nancy?

Okay, I'm sure this subject has probably been posted before and if it has, I'm sorry. But I need to express my opinions on this issue.

First of all, I'm new to this forum and I see how much of a close knit group you guys are and I hope to become one of the 'family' one day. I also love to comment and give my own opinions on certain things...So, uh...here it is...

Okay, so we all know Nancy Mckeon is a fabulous actress right? And we all know that she pretty much stuck to Lifetime movies right? And I have no problem with that because in most of those movies, she was able to show off her wonderful acting skills and crying scenes that make you want to cry along with her.

Like This Child is Mine, where she played a teenage mother who gave up her child for adoption, and changed her mind in the end because she couldn't stand to worry about how her daughter was being treated. And like in Baby Snatcher where she played a mother who's baby was kidnapped by a woman depsperate to keep her husband from walking out on her. In those movies, she was able to portray her incredible ways of acting, and like I said again, her famous crying scenes.

But I've noticed lately, her movie roles aren't really doing her justice. Take In My Sister's Shadow for example. I thought this movie was wonderful. But it didn't seem to me like she was able to show her full acting potential in this movie. It's also the case in her latest movie Wild Hearts. Even though she had a very small role in this movie, she could have been able to outshine the other actors very easily. But she didn't and her acting was very bland.

I'm not trying to bash on Nancy, I love this woman to death...I loved her on FOL and most of the movies she's played in, even the corny ones she did with Micheal J. Fox! She is pretty much my idol and I look up to her in becoming an actress myself one day...But I honestly think she has the acting skills to be in an oscar winning movie and she really deserves it...And I'm tired of seeing her in small roles like in Wild Hearts...

I'm ready to see Nancy in a film role we will never forget...Just like she did with A Cry For Help: A Tracey Thurman Story, which I heard is a great movie and which I assume she did wonderful on it, due to the fact that I have never seen it before. But I really hope she comes out with something big soon because all of her fans want to see her on the tv screen again...Lol.

And thank you guys for actually sitting through my little rant and I hope this can loosen some tongues and emmit some opinions from a few people. Feel free to comment and I'll ttyl guys...Baiz!

I totally agree. Nancy is (in my opinion) the best actress ever. I think she deserves to be reckonized and called out to audition for a big movie. However, Hollywood is caught up with using big names, but all it would take is one good theatre movie and she would be a big name. She has so much talent and people don't know it because she only gets small roles like in Wild Hearts. On big role could reinvent her whole acting career. Companies just need to give her the time of day.

I Wouldn't Hold Your Breath For A Big MovIE Role For Nancy, Guys. She Was Pregnant In Wildheart, And Just Had HER SECOND CHILD 2 In December. (although I Cannot Anywhere On The I-net Get Any Info Whatsoever. But, I Do Take Lisa's Word For It. Why Would She Lie?)

Ya Know, Nancy Can Choose Which Roles, Big Or Small To Do. Perhaps Because She Is Married Now, She Doesn't Want To Spend A Lot Of Time Away From Marc, And Now She Needs To Be There For The Baby, And Little Aurora.

Krystina-you Have Got To See Nancy In The Tracey Thurman Story. This Is An Oscar Performance. Nancy Turned The Role Down 3 Separate Times Before Accepting To Portray Tracy Thurman. I Will Tell You, Though, It Is Very Graphic And You Will Be On An Emotional Roller Coaster. I Don't Know Anyone That Didn't Watch This Movie That Was Not Affected By It In Some Way.

I Only Hope That When Nancy Feels Ready Again, Her Fans Will Support Her In Any Role She Takes On. I Would Love For Her To Do A Series Again, Preferrably Comedy, But I Don't Think That's Gonna Happen.

Unfortunately, it's really too late for Nancy. I am not inferring that she is old because I am only three years younger than her. What I am saying is that movie roles for women over forty are not as common as they should be. In all likelihood, her chances are over. She really should have grabbed the handle when The Tracey Thurman Story came out. There was a lot of good buzz and critical acclaim there. She really should have made her move then. Even a small role in a great movie is better than a big role in a lousy movie. If she had made her mark in that manner (such as Michelle Williams in Brokeback Mountain), her acting would have drawn attention. And at that point, she could have slowly but steadily built a career. I think perhaps her choice of roles was not the best. However, that being said, I do think she is quite talented. She can cry like nobody's business! And she's very multi-dimensional as well. But at this point in her life, I think she should be grateful for any kind of role at all.

Yes, I was also thinking about the fact that she has a family now and that might affect her acting career quite a bit. But it would be nice for her to do something like The Tracey Thurman story again, before she decides to put her acting second to her family you know?

And I have been DYING to see that movie since forever! A while back, I had to do a paper on domestic violence for my advanced literacy class in school (btw, I'm a senior in college) and my teacher recommended this movie and another movie with Farrah Fawcett in it called The Burning Bed. The Farrah Fawcett movie was easy to find on Lifetime Movie Network, but it was impossible for me to fine A Cry For Help. I went high and low looking for that movie, even when I handed in my paper, but it seems nearly impossible to find it!

My grandmother saw it when it first aired and she even gets chills just telling me about it and I want to see it so bad...Lol. Everyone tells me it is such a good movie...I wish LMN or Lifetime would air it again, just for old time's sake...

I THINK NANCY HAS ALREADY PUT ACTING SECOND PLACE TO HER FAMILY.

I REMEMBER SEEING THE BURNING BED WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT, TOO. THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF FARRAH'S LIFE. LIKE TRACEY'S TRUE LIFE STORY, THAT STORY AFFECTED ME A GREAT DEAL. VERY, VERY POWERFUL

AND, YOU CAN WATCH THE TRACEY THURMAN STORY YOU KNOW. BUY IT ON E-BAY, AMAZON, ETC. WATCH FOR IT ON CABLE, TOO. IT DOES GET AIRED, BUT NOT THAT OFTEN. OR, AS OFTEN AS IT SHOULD, IN MY OPINION.

I'LL KEEP MY EYE OUT FOR IT, TOO. I'LL POST IT ON THE "FACTS APPEARANCE THREAD", ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHERS I SEE.

I think Nancy is a wonderful actress. She can play anything and has. Think about all the various roles she has played over the years. So many, tough girl from the bronx, and orphan, a pregnant teenager, and abused wife, a vet, a cop, and bland sister, a nurse, a college student w/a mental illness, VP of a company, a mom, a best friend, a junkie (am I leaving anyhting out).

I think sice she has gotten married and started a family she has taken less risky rolls, but I think she will work again. We need to be patient. I would love to see her as a guest spot in Boston Legal, Greys Anatomy or scrubs.

I've seen all of those roles she's played in except for her being a college student with a mental illness and a junkie...What movies are those from? I am a huge fan of Nancy Mckeon and I've seen ALMOST all of her movies...But I've never heard of those before...O_o...Maybe it's just my bad memory acting up again, but I've never heard of her playing those roles before...I would appreciate the help, thank you! Ok, this is probably the dumbest question to you guys, but i'm sorry... i dont watch much tv in general and definately not much nancy mckeon stuff like you guys... but is the division still airing? i used to watch its late night reruns a long while back, but i haven't heard about it much recently, so i wondered if it got cancelled... anyways, i definately think that since she's gotten married that she's not taken on as many roles as she would have otherwise. since she's keeping her personal life so private (which i DEF dont blame her) you can tell that she plans to really focus on her family life, which is wonderful... when i get married in a couple years and start a family i plan to do the same, really focus on the family aspect.

Btw.... welcome to the board krazykay... i've been around for over 6 years and i still am not one of the family... but with your love of nancy mckeon i'm sure you'll feel right at home here! But on a more serious note... i am really glad to see you join the board with your love for fol... i too am in college (i am a junior but on the 5 year plan becuase i am a civil engineering major) and it's great to know that i'm not hte only college dork who still loves fol!! I hope that you an become apart of the family becuase that too is my goal and has been for quite sometime... i used to be quite the member on this message board 4-6 years ago... and then i found a boyfriend and kind of lost sight of fol for a while, as soon as i heard the news about fol coming to dvd i came back right away to hear all of the news and gossip about it... so now i'm out of hte loop again, anyways! Welcome aboard! And good luck finding the movie

I disagree...I think she still has the potential and looks to be cast in many movies that 30 something year olds are getting...I mean, one, she doesn't look 40...Heck, she doesn't look a day over 34 or 35...She, in my opinion aged the best out of the 4 women of the FOL group and there are actresses in their late twenties who look older than Nancy! I think she can still make it up there, but like JOjr said, she's more into being with her family and growing her kids up in a nice and quiet environment...I do hope we get to see alot more of Nancy soon...I am very impatient, but I'll wait for that day...

Yes, yes...I am officially a FOL dork...And it is so sad because when I try to talk about it with my friends at school, they look at me and always say the same thing, 'the eighties are over sweetheart...Get your head out of the big haired past and do your work!' Lol...So it's nice to be able to talk to people who understand my devotion to FOL and Nancy Mckeon.

And it's also nice to be here because I never really got to watch the show on it's original run because I was born in 86 and I was about 2 when the show finished...So it's nice to talk to people who have actually seen ALL of the episodes and who I can ask pretty much anything about FOL and they can answer me with no problem. So I think I'm gonna be here for a while...

And about school? Yea, this is my last year until I move to LA to continue my other 3 years of college there...My major is Drama/Acting arts...So you can understand my devotion to Nancy Mckeon and her brilliant acting skills. Thanks for the encouraging and kind words,a nd for the warm welcome...

NO. IT'S NOT THE DUMBEST QUESTION. NOW, THAT THREAD ABOUT SHAWN STEVENS MIGHT BE THE DUMBEST QUESTION, BUT NOT YOURS

I BELIEVE THE DIVISION WAS FROM 2001-2004 ON LIFETIME. ACCORDING TO ONE I-NET SITE, IT STILL HAS THE DIVISION SHOWING IN RE-RUNS. THAT'S WHY I HAD LISTED IT A WJILE BACK AS RE-AIRING AGAIN; BUT IT'S NOT SHOWING IN THE MIDWEST, AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN CONFUSED BY THIS AS WELL. I JUST CHECKED LIFETIME, AND THERE IS NO MENTION OF THE DIVSION BEING IN THEIR LINE UP. I SAW THE DIVISION IN RE-RUNS, AS I DIDN'T HAVE CABLE WHEN IT FIRST AIRED.

AND WHO SAYS YOUR NOT PART OF THE FAMILY? JUST CUZ YOU AND I DON'T SEE THINGS THE SAME DOESN'T MEAN WE'RE NOT FAMILY. DOES EVERYONE IN YOUR FAMILY SEE EVERYTHING AS YOU DO? WELL OK THEN. THERE YA GO

"STRANGE VOICES" ('87) WAS DONE WHILE NANCY WAS ON FACTS. AND THE ONE ABOUT HER BEING A DRUG ADDICT? I'M NOT SUR, BUT IT COULD BE THE FILM WRITTEN AND DIRECTED MY MARC ROCCO, "WHERE THE DAY TAKES YOU." IT IS ABOUT A GROUP OF HOMELESS KIDS, AND HAS DRUG USE IN IT. I JUST READ ABOUT 20 REVIEWS OF THE MOVIE, AND IT HAS GOTTEN EXCELLENT RAVES.

DID YOU NOTICE THE NAME MARC ROCCO? IT IS ALEX ROCCO'S SON (CHARLIE POLNIACZEK, WHO PLAYED JO'S DAD). FUNNY THAT ALEX'S SON NAME IS MARC, AND SO IS NANCY'S HUSBAND, AND THEY'RE BOTH SPELLED THE SAME. WHAT A CO-INK-I-DINK

ALSO, NANCY'S BRO, PHILIP AND MARC ROCCO HAVE ALSO DONE PROJECTS TOGETHER.

I've never thought of those coincidences. Thanks for bringing them up Jo jr. BTW, welcome to the board krazykay. FYI, I'm a huge fan of Nancy McKeon too.
