Default Australian Seasons 1 & 2 DVD cover

The DVD release of Seasons 1 & 2 of "The Facts Of Life" is (finally) coming out here in Australia this Wednesday, March 7, and this is what the DVD cover looks like...

I bought Seasons 1-3 online, when they were released in the US, but I'll be buying Seasons 1 & 2 again here, mainly because of the different cover! hehe... I'm a big Jo fan, but I don't have a problem with the Australian cover, as there's plenty of opportunity for her to appear on the cover of future season releases... I can imagine some people here looking at the cover trying to spot Jo tho', especially if they're unaware of, or just don't remember, the origins of the show, and its first season (...which is likely to be a lot of people!)...

Anyway, I wish Sony would hurry up and release Season 4 in the US, as I haven't watched the show since it initially aired here in the 80's, and I'm dying to watch it all again... Hopefully it'll come out around the same date the DVD release of Seasons 1 & 2 did, at the latest... or maybe they're just stuck on cover art ideas, and that's why we haven't seen it out yet! lol...

That's actually a cool cover. I like it. I understand Sony's reason for putting a Season 2 pic on the cover though. I think that was one of their smartest tv-on-dvd releases. They got that one right!

OH, I LOVE THAT COVER! IN ALL HONESTY, I THINK THE SEASON 1 GIRLS SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THEIR PROPS, AND BEEN ON THE COVER. BESIDES, ANY TRUE FACTS OF LIFE FAN WOULD INSTANTLY RECOGNIZE THE DVD, DONT'CHA THINK?

LET ME ASK YOU ADULTESCENT, DID THE DVD'S YOU BOUGHT HERE IN THE STATES WORK ON YOUR DVD PLAYER? I'M ASKING BECAUSE IF IT DID, I WAS WONDERING IF WE COULD WORK SOMETHING OUT. I'D REALLY LIKE TO GET A HOLD OF THE FACTS DVD'S FROM OTHER COUNTRIES. ALTHOUGH I'M SURE THEY'D HAVE THE SAME CONTENT, I'D LIKE TO MAKE SURE. BESIDES, EVEN IF IT DIDN'T PLAY ON THE USA DVD PLAYERS, I'D STILL HAVE A PRETTY SOVENIER.

PM ME IF YOU CAN, I HAVE ANOTHER FAVOR TO ASK ABOUT LINKING UP SOME VIDOES LIKE YOU DID WITH THE NANCY INTERVIEW FOR ME. THANKS, BUDDY

That should have been the cover in Region 1, at least they got it right!

JO jr, the Season 1-3 DVD's I bought of the show from Amazon do work on my DVD player, because most DVD players sold here in Australia can basically play DVD's from anywhere in the world, and aren't locked to only play Australian Region 4 DVD's, and Region 0 ("all region") ones...

I don't think that's the case in the US, and I think most DVD players sold there are locked to primarily play US/Canada Region 1 DVD's, and Region 0 ones...

Now, the Australian release of Seasons 1 & 2 of "The Facts Of Life" is a Region 4 NTSC release, so you'd need to have a "multi-region" DVD player, capable of playing Australian Region 4 DVD's... If you don't have one, it's probably unlikely you'd be able to play them back on your DVD player...

However, most DVD players can be "unlocked" to play back DVD's from anywhere, but you'd have to research that online, regarding your specific DVD player, to get the "code" to unlock it... I just did a very quick search online, and here's a page that might be helpful, if you're interested in this...

http://www.dvddemystifiziert.de/code.../codefree.html

If you're not interested in this, because you don't want to stuff around with your DVD player (and possibly stuff it up :| lol... not likely, but you never know I suppose), if you can play DVD's on your computer, you should at least be able to play back the DVD's there without a problem, irrespective of the DVD's region code...

The main software program I use to watch DVD's on my computer, InterVideo WinDVD Recorder, is currently set to play Region 4 DVD's, and can be changed I think it's 5 times before it's permanently set to play DVD's only from a specific region... However, I have bought MANY Region 1 DVD's online, and watched a lot of them with this program, and only about 2 or 3 times have I ever been asked to change the region setting to Region 1 in order to watch the DVD... Which, of course, I don't, I just use a free software program like VLC media player from http://www.videolan.org/ to watch it instead, which doesn't have regional restrictions hehe...

Anyway, I've probably bored most people reading this to death at this stage :| , so I'll just quickly add here's where people overseas can buy the Australian Seasons 1 & 2 DVD release online if they want to, as this highly reputable Australian company ships worldwide...

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/791581

I'm pretty certain the content on it will be exactly the same as the US release, and when I get mine later today I'll definitely check it...

Aaaah, also just one more thing, to quickly clear up when I said in my original post - "I can imagine some people here looking at the cover trying to spot Jo" - I of course meant by "some people here", here in Australia, not people here on this forum, just in case anyone thought that's what I did mean! lol... About that tho', my mind immediately associates the show with the character of Jo, so if my memory of the show was entirely based on my 80's memories of it, I would definitely be one of those people "looking at the cover trying to spot Jo", lol... I just think a lot of fans of the show here probably haven't watched it since the 80's, and don't look it up online, and might feel the same way, since the character of Jo was very popular, and a main reason many of us looked forward to watching the show every week...

Anyway, I'm definitely gonna go now, so I have time to PM you as well! :| lol... Byeee!

Default Australian DVD scans...

Well I now have the Australian DVD release of Seasons 1 & 2, and just wanted to let anyone who's interested know that the content on the Australian release is identical to the US one, with identical menus, except we only have two of the previews in the special features section ("I Dream Of Jeannie" & "Gidget and The Flying Nun"), instead of the four on the US release...

The 4 discs come in one hard plastic DVD case, with discs 1/4 attached to the inside front/back of the case, and discs 2/3 attached to a plastic DVD holder thing on the middle spine, that flips around... I was expecting this, because this is how Season 1 of "Diff'rent Strokes" was released here...

I just scanned the front and back, as well as the 4 discs inside... Any streaking, etc, you see on any of the scans is due to my scanner, and the quality of the originals is, of course, much better...

When the images open up, click the image to view it in full size, so you can see clearer detail...

Back (has the episode summaries... If you compare the Australian summaries with the US ones, you'll notice they're similar, but different... Also, the quality of the original is far better than this scan, and is a solid colour, with no streaking) -

THANKU FOR ALL THE PICS! NOW I REALLY WANT THE AUSTRALIAN DVD'S!

I GOT MY DVD'S AND IN COMPARISON I NOTICE: THE FRONT & BACK COVERS ARE DIFFERENT. YOU HAVE SOME OF THE SAME PICS, BUT ADDITIONAL ONES.

ALSO, THE DESCRIPTION OF THE EPS ARE DIFFERENT. AT LEAST THE WORDING IS DIFFERENT THAN OURS.

FURTHERMORE, THE DVD PICS ARE ALMOST ALL DIFFERENT. YOUR # 1 DISK HAS MRS. G. WE HAVE SUE ANN. DISC # 2-YOU HAVE NAT (LOVE THAT PIC!), WE HAVE MOLLY. # 3 DISC IS THE SAME-BLAIR, AND THE PIC SEEMS IDENTICLE. DICS # 4-WE BOTH HAVE THE SAME PIC OF JO, HOWEVER, OPPOSITE PROFILES. I CAUGHT THAT

WELL, I SENT YOU A PM A FEW HOURS AGO RE THE DVD'S. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

BUT THANKS A BUNCH MATE, AND NO WORRIES
