Default Was Curtis Heck responsible for Kenneth Engie's death?

I vote no.

To me, Kenneth came across as a beligierent drunk, and Curtis was the level-headed guy who was just reacting to Kenneth's drunken actions.

What I believe happened was Kenneth started up his truck in the garage and at first didn't remember what that can do to your system if you stay in the garage with the truck running. He starts feeling woozy and then remembers to shut off the truck. He tries to exit the garage, but collapses and dies. I don't think I can blame Curtis for leaving Kenneth on the floor, as I don't think he knew what danger Kenneth was in. Probably most people in Curtis's situation would have done the same. I am also unsure of what possible motive there could be, this doesn't appear to be anything more than a simple bar fight, plus I think Kenneth was the instigator of it all, not Curtis.

The bartender was in Curtis's truck while Curtis was kicking Kenneth's truck. I wonder if they ever interviewed her? Might be able to help clear Curtis.

I always thought this was a stupid "filler" segment. It's pretty clear (at least to me) that his death was accidental.

Hmm, I am actually on the fence on this one. I dont disagree about the part about Kenneth Ingy being a belligerant drunk. He was drunk and mad because the bartender wasnt going to go with him and presumably sleep with him. Curtis tried to get him to leave and Kenneth tried fighting with him when Curtis tried to make him leave. Kenneth did get up and go after Curtis warned him again but of course Kenneth in a very intoxicated state of mind had to have the last word sort of speak by ramming Curtis's pickup. Curtis was also intoxicated but not to the level of Ingy I dont think. Curtis certainly wasnt belligerant but was understandably ticked off because Ingy had rammed and damaged his pickup so Curtis decided to do the same to Ingy.

I lean towards the opinion that Ingy's death was an accident, that he was running the truck in the garage with the garage door closed and the garage filled up with a lethal amount of carbon monoxide and Ingy in a very intoxicated state simply was negligent of this and was overcome by the fumes. However it is certainly possible that Curtis Heck and Ingy got into a fight in the garage and it simply went too far since both of them were heavily intoxicated.

Only odd thing was that there was no signs of assault, despite the fact that he and the other man had brawled earlier in the night.

I've never thought Heck killed Ingy. He came across as very believable in the segment and I tend to agree with everyone that it was an accidental death.

For Kenneth to damage his own truck the guy had to be beyond drunk, I'm with Curtis on this one if someone just did that to your truck or car would you double check on them as they laid on the garage floor wasted and what appeared to be passed out?

I hear you Wiseguy they should of interviewed the bartender for the segment anyways, was curious to see her after the renactment of the brawl for the rights to take her home.

If Kenneth sober enough to turn off the engine. I think he would be sober enough to walk out of the garage to get some air.

I just can't explain who turned off the engine.

Someone else must have come into the garage at some point at turned off the ignition while Kenneth was dead or dying.

Kenneth Engy's death was an accident, pure and simple. I think his family needs someone to blame and place their anger at. Understandable, but mistaken.

I vote "no" on this as well. The scenario presented by the investigator (I think?) in the UM segment is the most plausible scenario here. Curtis Heck comes off as an honest guy who simply threw a few drunken, "not...Ali" punches at another in a bar at 3 am

I'm sure ingy himself turned off the ingnition but that does not mean he got out of the truck right away

I have my own theory about this case. I believe Ingy started the truck to get warm and let the engine run for a while (he would have been disoriented from the drinking). He then turned the engine off himself a short while later but DID NOT GET OUT OF THE TRUCK. I feel he probably in the truck for awhile and stewed over the situation with Curtis Heck (again, alcohol was a contributing factor). Finally, he got out of the track and collapsed (because the truck had been running, there were still carbon monoxide fumes in the garage that did him in.

So no, I do not think Muhammad Ali was responsible for Ingy's death

How on Earth did this case get picked to air on UM?

What a waste of time. The most obvious "Unsolved Mystery" of all-time. There is absolutely nothing suspicious of this. Whoever green lit this compared to other actual mysteries at the time is beyond me.

Agreed also. i think it's telling that, 7 years after I started that poll question, only a singular person voted that Curtis Heck was responsible. I'm dying to know who that person is. Perhaps they will reveal themselves.

LOL I thought this was actually a new poll, so I voted. I'm also a big fat "no" on this one, too--the two may have both been inebriated (perhaps Ingie more so than Heck, or maybe not, or who knows), but at the end of the day, Curtis has no culpability at all whatsoever in Kenneth Ingie's death. In fact, didn't he go out of his way to shut Ingie's truck engine off? I never understood why there was any heat on that guy at all.

Like MegtheEgg86, I also saw this poll for the first time today. I, too, believe that Curtis Heck is not culpable in Kenneth Engie's death.
