Can anyone help me remember this case? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I use to watch unsolved mysteries all the time when i was a younger kid and the one that I have been wanting to see for along time I cant really remember the details and it bugs me... I believe it was an army guy or military guy that suddenly dissapeared and he had a chinese/japenese (not sure) girlfriend. they said that his dissaperance was based off some book or movie and he was part of some secret operation.. Does anyone know what im talkign about??? I've always wanted to see this one again and havent seen it probably since ive been 10 years old.

Justin Burgwinkel. I sent a copy of this story to someone who was friends with Justin a year or so ago and he said he was still missing. He also said that he didn't believe Justin was involved in anything covert but also said that if anyone wanted to disappear and never be found, he could do it.

Thanks.... Do you know where i could find the Dan Short case of Noel,MO??? I have the Forensic Files episode and its a very good one but havent seen the UM one for about 10 years....

Wow, I had been leaning towards Justin's disappeance as unwilling. If he did disappear willingly, I wonder what on Earth could have provoked him. Perhaps he didn't like getting demoted to cook. The segment mentioned something about what was referred to as "The shoplifting incident", but doesn't venture into further detail about it. I wonder what that was all about, and if it had anything to do with his disappearance. Aargh, I hate it when Unsolved Mysteries leaves out details.

There was also another story on UM involving a military guy. If I remember correctly, a soldier went to I think the Vietnam War and never returned home to his wife. According to the US Military, he was discharged or something but his wife believes he was killed in combat. She even went on Donahue to talk about the case. Anybody know the story i'm referring to?

Are you referring to the one where the wife/family was convinced that they saw a picture of their lost love in pictures of a POW camp that was featured in Time magazine? If so, I want to say that there was an update in which an FBI expert said they were convinced that the man in the photograph was not their lost love.

The Justin Bergwinkel case blows my mind. I've often pondered that he disappeared willingly in an attempt to protect his friends and family. Has anyone seen the movie he referenced? I believe it was "White Sands," for those of you who are interested.

I have it on my Netflix, but it keeps getting bumped in favor of other new releases...

I have no idea. I do remember the UM segment showed her on Donahue talking about it. And it involved the army. You could be right Christina Ricci, I think the military told her he died but she thinks hes still alive or something like that.

I haven't seen it, at least not yet, but I love Mrs. Burgwinkels' description of it: "It's about the CIA, and the FBI, and this one does that to this one, and you don't know who the bad guy is, and you don't know who the good guy is."

I should rent it, just to get a better understanding of this story.

I don't know. That sounds an awful lot like the plot of The Good Shepherd... or The Departed.
