Default No wonder Lucy was always in trouble with finances...

Ok here I go, as some of us stated in another thread, Lucy would buy props for bets, etc. such as the time Lucy and Ethel wanted to be in the society league, they went and bought things to churn butter, Lucy bought a bathtub, and other items just for the bet they made with the boys abt how their grandmothers didn't need modern appliances and so forth.

What other "useless" items did Lucy buy?

-In the episode "Be a Pal" Lucy decorated the living room to give it that Cuban feel, such as a mule...where on earth did Lucy rent that animal from and how much do you think that cost????

The five little boys that were supposed to represent Ricky's five brothers...did Lucy go to "rent-a-kid" or something? Hmmmm...

The outfit she wore to lip-synch to that Carmen Miranda song.

And all that miscellaneous stuff...

-In the Hollywood episode regarding John Wayne's footprints, they had to buy that big metal tub, the hammer, the bucket, the cement, etc.

Also the baby elephant , renting Superman for her son's b-day and getting all the costumes for the snobby women club they applied for.

In the Men Are Messy episode, she has to make the apt. look a mess, so she got all that junk.

She also got stuff for "Lucy Hires a Maid," "The Kleptomaniac," "Ricky Thinks He's Going Bald" and all those kids' toys in "The Ricardos Change Apartments."

She was able to get a reducing machine, rivet gun, wheelchair, film splicing machine, 100 pound tuna, a set of golf clubs, crystal ball, etc.

What about the plays she wrote: "Lucy Writes a Play," "Home Movies"
and "The Operetta." Where did she get all that stuff?

If you added up the cost of her costumes and disguises alone, the Ricardos would be bankrupt.

Let's not forget the outfits the four of them bought/rented when the girls went to charm school. First the girls had those dresses, then the boys had those costumes.

What about all those kids in the episode where that grocer liked her and came over for dinner? Or the stroller in the Freezer episode?

Oh, in the Operetta she got the stuff by writing a bad check. LOL

What about all those kids she had hanging out in her bedroom in "Lucy Plays Cupid"? What did she do to induce them to come to her apartment and wait in her bedroom that whole time she was having dinner? In "Men Are Messy," as mentioned above, where did she get all that junk? And what about the chickens? The last time I was in New York City, I didn't notice any chickens anywhere.

Ok, we have a mule, chickens and a baby elephant...in NEW YORK CITY??? And no animal poop??? hard to believe...

As for the kids you mentioned in Lucy Plays Cupid are they the same kids she "borrowed" in the post that I mentioned above? (the episode where Lucy is trying to make Ricky feel like he is in Cuba)

When Lucy and Ricky fought and she pretended that she was hit by a bus...those bandages, all the items she threw out the window, those Henna bottles must have cost a pretty penny to just "throw out".

The episode when Lucy was trying to convince Ricky they needed a bigger apartment, she had a house full of toys. And that huge slide, how did she get it into her house? My God.

And if they were so broke, how and why did she buy a 2-wheel bike, a tricycle, a scooter, bow and arrow set, electric train, teeter-totter and chinese checkers when the kid can't even stand up yet?

Lucy did not rent superman for little rickys party. If you remember Ricky knew "superman" George Reeves from out in hollywood so he did it as a favor for Ricky

Exactly. Ricky is telling her we can't afford it, yet she can buy all that crap?

Speaking of animal poop, did you ever see that "Carol Burnett Show" blooper where Carol was singing with a horse in the background, and the horse started pooping? The audience started busting up laughing and poor Carol looked so nervous and confused, with no idea what was going on behind her . . . until she turned around, then she burst out laughing.

Good question, but I'm wondering what Mrs. Trumble had to say about that. She had enough trouble putting up with one baby. I'm surprised she didn't throw a fit at the Mertzes when all those kids came walking into the building.

Not to mention the fines she might have had to pay for littering, or the jail time she might have needed to serve for killing someone on the street below who got knocked in the head by a henna bottle

Yeah, all the fines, plus jail time Lucy and the others would have had, including when they were actually in jail when they thought the actor tenants were going to blow up the capital (plus shooting off guns, destroying a door, et al), and Lucy would have faced a charge of abduction for tying up the dancer in the broom closet when she was trying to lose weight to fit into the costume, and all the debris and noise when they were trying to make the Mertzes let them out of their lease... I don't think the cops at their precinct would have mistaken Lucy and Ethel for Stickyfingers Sal and Pickpocket Pearl-- they should have had a familiarity already with Licentious Lucy and Eavesropping Everpresent Ethel.

tdr & NOVARick, those are great observations. I too wonder abt the stuff Lucy threw out the window like the henna bottles. She fell onto an awning which explains why she wasn't hurt, however, the items she threw out obviously landed on the ground.

As for the comment abt the Carol Burnett show, YES! I RECALL THAT ONE! That was hilarious! Ahhhhh, memories of great television.

As far as the tenants who Lucy thought were spies really must have cost a pretty penny since Fred told Lucy that she would have to pay for all the damages and the loss of the tenants' since they moved out because of what Lucy had assumed. Poor Ricky, he was really in the poor house.

Remember when Ricky was buying that house in Connecticut and Lucy didn't want to move so she and the Mertzes scared the hell outta that couple, remember how the man raised the price of the deposit on the house PLUS "punitive damages" for the hell that Lucy put them through?

I think we ought to start a new thread about all the reasons Lucy Ricardo should be in prison. Lucy once feared Ricky was going to murder her, but if Ricky really wanted her out of his life, all he'd have to do is call the police and have her arrested: Lucy has a bigger rap sheet than Sticky Fingers Sal herself. Think about it: theft, assuming false identities (and identities of other people), disturbing the peace, trespassing, spying. I'm sure this could be a very long list. And I'd like to understand why are we so much in love with this person who has so little regard for the law?
