Default Do you agree the that Blair was the GLUE that held the 4 girls together?

I was watching the Natalie having sex with snake epsiode last night and Blair wasn't in this one and it just didn;t seem right to see just Tootie, Natalie, and Joe. I needed to see Blair in order to watch the show, something was just missing without her. The Girls without Blair was like

The Sweathogs with Barbarino

Rerun and Dwayne with Raj

Postie and Ralph without Richie

I both agree and disagree. Blair was important, but it was an ensemble cast. All the girls I think needed to be together to make it work.

Actually it was Mrs. Garrett who was the glue of the show. Once she left, it was never the same.

I don't necessarily think that Blair was the one who kept the show together. I think it's just really strange to not have her there. But she was a really key character and probably more essential than others.

I second that!! I was watching a tape of diff'rent strokes a couple nights ago (back when both were on nick at nite) and in the middle of my diff'rent strokes episode was a facts of life episode, i was all excited... until i saw cloris in the opener... now dont get me wrong, i love her and her acting, but it was just not the same, i dont understand how the girls could have formed a close bond with beverly over night like it seemed to happen in the show... it's like when sitcoms magically age the baby they had to boost ratings like 5 years... just doesn't work!

I didn't say the Glue that held the show together, I was talking about the friendship of the 4 Girls

Well we know it wasn't Natalie or Tootie so that just leaves Joe and tjat's why Blair was the leader. I can watch a Click without their leader-lol

I stand in the middle. I think as it was a full cast, each of the girls was equally as important. And at the same time, I think the show was not nearly as good as when Charlotte Rae left. Facts is one of my favorite show, but I think it was the aura of the four girls plus Mrs. Garrett that made it most special.

I actually disagree with the sentiment that Blair was the leader. Generally when any of the girls looked for leadership (particularly in the later years), it seemed they went to Jo.

That was actually a source of contention for Blair in that one Edna's Edibles episode when Mrs. Garrett went out of town and Blair was so offended that everybody always assumed Jo was in charge of everything. Natalie and Tootie even ask Jo if they have to do what Blair says at one point when Blair temporarily goes all dictator on them. LOL.

I think in terms of episodes, any episode that is missing one of the key four girls feels off because they are such a ensemble group. So yes, in that sense "The First Time" feels off without Blair. But I also think any episode without Tootie, Natalie or Jo feels just as off.

I also agree with the fact that if anybody is the glue between the girls, its Mrs. Garrett.
