Tell us the name of your town and a little bit of history about it.
I live in Schaumburg, Illinois. I have lived here since 1985. Schaumburg was founded as Sara's Grove in the late 1800's. I only live a couple of blocks from the old section of town. One of the most visited places in Schaumburg is Woodfield Mall. Built in the late 1960's, Woodfield was once the biggest shopping mall in the country. Almost all the schools in Schaumburg are named after historical figures. I went to Aldrin Grade School (well, after we moved here, anyway) and Robert Frost Junior High School. I graduated from Schaumburg High School in 1994. There was a girl who graduated in 1991 who went on to be Miss America. |

Well the town I live in now, Mechanicsburg, PA, has the distinction of being the northernmost town to surrender to the Confederates during the Civil War
The Confederates came right through here on their way to Gettysburg and said, "Surrender or we'll torch your town." All of the men were already off, fighting, so there were only women, children, and a few elderly men. The mayor said "Okay, we surrender." ![]() Getttysburg is very close to us, but I think you've probably heard about that place

I live in Joliet, Illinois. It was originally named Juliet, which is interesting because there's a town nearby that's called Romeoville. Other than that, I don't know much. We're famous for our old prison. And we have a really old theatre, the Rialto Square Theatre, that was named one of the most beautiful theatres in the world at one point. Oh and in the early 1900's, they founded Joliet Junior College, which was the first public community college in the country. |
