Default Antonio dressed as a rabbi(?)....

There must be a movie reference I'm missing in the Dead End Connelly episode. When Antonio --- dressed as a jewish rabbi --- says "Even if I were a rich man" the audience breaks into knowing laughter. I figure it must be a famous movie quote I don't know about. And when he, Brian, and Joe are all dressed like rabbis and Helen announces their breakfasts, the audience does it again.

Anyone have any idea what film this refers to?

Thanks

When Helen is announcing their breakfasts really loud she mentions sausage, bacon and ham...all three are pork meat...and rabbi's can't eat pork because of the Jewish religion. I'm pretty sure that's why the audience laughs when that happens, I'm not sure about the "If I were a rich man" comment though..that must be a reference that went over my head.

Hope that helps!

I don't get that "If I were a rich man" joke either.

None of you people have seen Fiddler on the Roof?! It's a famous Jewish musical, and one of the songs is "If I Were a Rich Man." It's a really good movie, if you're into musicals.

BTW, which Wings episode was this? I can't seem to place the scene.

Ahh, ok, thanks, Jess. I know Jewish people have certain food restrictions, but it was the way the audience reacted like it was funnier than it was.

Not much one for musicals. Have heard of "Fiddler...", but have never seen it.

The ep was where Antonio --- filling in for Fay --- gave a hot-headed hockey goalie's seat to a stand-by passenger. The goalie misses his game in Boston and the Bruins have their winning streak stopped. The goalie goes on local tv to denounce Sandpiper, which leads to a media firestorm, forcing Antonio to dress incognito for a couple scenes .

I knew it had to be in reference to something like that...I've heard of Fiddler on the Roof but I've never seen it or anything, glad to have that cleared up. And yeah, I too think that the audience laughed a little too hard about them eating pork, but that's all I could come up with as to why they laughed...

Isn't Fiddler on the Roof also the musical where that "I have NO son!" line comes from? I've heard that line on The Simpsons a couple of times. I think I've heard that "If I were a rich man..." line on other shows. I've never seen the actual musical though. I hear it's really great.

I thought The Team Player was one of the funnier season 7 episodes, and there aren't too many episodes from that season that I like. I was hoping that Antonio would wind up punching out Dead-End Connelly, but I guess that would have brought him all the way down to Connelly's level. Besides, we know Dead-End would have killed him

But Dead-End vs. Joe would've been the thrilla in vanilla .

I think "I hef no son!" is from The Jazz Singer, where Neil Diamond's Jewish dad can't stand him being a rock star, lol! No, not that, Pop!

That would last about 5 minutes longer than the "Dead-End vs. Antonio" fight would!
