Alex P Keaton vs Michael J Fox
How much do you think APK and MJF had in common? Does anyone know what MJF's political views were back then?
I think some people are too hard on APK. It's true that he can sometimes get a little carried away, but he has a lot of tenderness for his family and friends. Even if he and Mallory may not always get along, they obviously do love each other. |

They probably don't have a whole lot in common. I don't think MJF was real political when FT was originally on. I used to read interviews with him and he never really talked politics. After he got sick he became more political and I know when SC was on I knew he was a Democrat.
APK was a great character with a lot of good qualities. Of course like any sitcom some things were exagerated for comedy's sake but that's why FT was a great sitcom. They showed both the conservative and liberal points of view and even with Steven and Elyse, even if you didn't agree with their politics you could tell they were good people and really in love with each other. |

Maybe when Alex gave his advice to Mallory's French instructer, he wasn't meaning to demean women. He was just speaking from his own experience. Yeah, I think Michael really wasn't all the political back then. I think APK would've been an MJF fan, if you go with the theory that MJF does exist in the FT universe.
I guess being a fanfic writer myself, coupled with being a huge fan of Back to the Future, I tend to imagine fictional world being parallel universes - so I guess I tend to think more deeply about this stuff, than others might. I think a lot of the MJF characters do have similar reactions and facial expressions. Yeah, maybe Michael didn't have that much in common with Alex. This might be slightly off-topic, but still of a related subject. How do you think Alex P Keaton would have gotten along with the other MJF characters? I think he would really admire Brantley Foster, as they have a lot in common. So the two of them would probably get along great. I think he would get along with Marty McFly, too - even if they are a bit different. While he might initially clash with Mike Flaherty, as was suggested in the last Spin City episode that he appeared in - I think the two of them would eventually become friends, as well. Alex is not a mean-spirited person at all, even if he may be a little annoying at times. He has great tenderness towards his friends and family. Heck, he's good friends with Skippy Handelman, who is a bit of a misfit. |
