I love the innocence project, usually it works quite well. Except in the case of Steven Avery it appears but that is another matter.

Who's Steven Avery? (If it's not UM related, feel free to shoot me a PM.)
As far as the Innocence project is concerned, I think it's a great idea. Through my work in criminal prosecution and defense, I know that innocent men and women DO confess to crimes they did not commit. (It's something I will NEVER understand, but I am aware it happens.) If DNA can clear innocent people, then by all means, let's test the suspects. In my opinion, it benefits prosecutors just as much as defenders. |

Avery was a man who lived about 20 minutes from me. He went to jail for 18 years for a rape he didn't commit. (He was arrested a few times prior for animal abuse and other things) After 2 years or so of freedom, a local photographer Teresa Halbach went to his junkyard to take a few pics of a van Avery was selling. He proceded to chain her up, rape her, then watched TV and his High School nephew came over, so he convinced his nephew to rape her too. Then they stabbed her, shot her, chooped her up and burned her.
His case is on crime library.com |

Yeah, I remember someone said that case was unheard-of, for someone to be falsely convicted of such a crime and then commit the same crime and worse.

yeah....it is unfortunate to see so many people put away on circumstancial evidence. it is something that really gets under my skin. With all of the modern technology we have it is good to see people put away with STRONG INDISPUTABLE evidence. and on the flip side it's good to see people released when circumstancial evidence is reviewed and they are cleared by DNA evidence or other indisputable means. i also agree about confession. I don't understand it. What I will say is that when some of these suspects are threatened with long prison sentencing or even death it clearly rattles them. I've watched many of cases where defendants take deals at their counsel advice because they feel hopeless. and then come to find out those people were innocent. this is just one flaw in the system that really irks me.
