My Views on Alex P Keaton

I have to say that I have mixed feelings on the Alex P Keaton character. Not to get all political here, but when I watched a few scenes where Steve and Elyse Keaton reminence about their hippie days - I find myself wishing that those are Alex's views.

On the other hand, though, you do have to admire how close-knit and loving the family are - even if they may strongly disagree on politics. Also, you have to admire how Alex comes through for his parents and can respectfully disagree with them.

All in all, Alex P Keaton is a very loveable character that I happen to disagree with a lot of the time. Also, he's a perfect example of how not all conservatives are hatemongers, like Rush Limbaugh. He may clash with his parents a lot, but they love each other deeply.

The Keaton family definitely have a healthier relationship with each other, than the McFly family did in the original timeline of BTTF.

I finally finished watching all four discs. I have to admit that the episode where he gives dating tips to Mallory's French tutor does bother me a bit, as he did seem pretty sexist. I guess he does get carried away at times. I admire the way he finally learned that he should let Ming be himself, instead of trying to mold him into an APK clone. It's nice that he decided to be Ming's Big Brother again. While he and Mallory may fight quite a bit, they really do love each other, and they do have a soft spot for Jennifer, as well.

All in all, while Alex may be a bit annoying at times - it's hard to not love him! He is also proof that not all conservatives are hatemongers, like a certain Rush Limbaugh. I can hardly wait for the next seasons to come out. I'm there's a lot of character development for him in the following seasons - as he becomes a little more mature.

I can hardly wait to see more of him with Skippy. Alex's relationship with Skippy reminds me a bit about Marty's relationship with Doc and young George. Well, Skippy obviously has a lot more in common with young George McFly - than he does with Doc Brown. They are all misfits in a way, though.

I just re-watched the first two discs with my mother, and we kinda talked a little bit about Alex's strong points and weak points.

His most obvious weak point is that he maybe cares about money a little too much. Much like Brantley Foster of The Secret of My Success (Great movie, by the way!), Alex is a little obsessive with becoming a top executive and making lots of money. In spite of the claim he may have once made about how people who have money don't need people, we know he doesn't really feel that way. This was especially evident in Death of a Grocer, when one of the major complaints he had about Shop-A-Lot was that nobody really talks to anyone. So he went back to working at Adler's Grocery Store, where he was really fond of his boss there.

His other weak point is that he sometimes does come off as seeming sexist, but I think it might be a result of reading too much into the movies he likes to watch. Also, I think being cheated on by Stephanie may have also caused him to question the real attitudes of woman. It maybe did seem to him like many of the teenage girls go for the "bad guys", while the "nice guys finish last". He really did show a lot of tenderness towards Stephanie, and it must have been real heartbreaking for him to find out he was being cheated on.

In spite of his faults, though, he is a very kind and caring person with a winning personality - and he has a great sense of humour. It's just that he sometimes gets a little carried away.

I just think that Alex had to be a Conservative to make the show work. His parents were liberal and one of the things I liked about the show was that even though they didn't agree with each other politically their was a lot of love in that family.

I would say that Alex is overall a very friendly person - and he's certainly a lot nicer than many Republicans today can be, like a certain Rush Limbaugh. What does tend to bug me about Alex, though, is that he can sometimes seem a bit sexist - but I think he really does have a big heart, though, when it comes to women. I understand how he felt when he discovered that Stephanie was cheating on him - and, even though he gave Jeff bad advice, I don't think he really does act that way when he's with girls. He just wasn't dating anyone at the time.

I like that Alex was conservative, but at times he went a little overboard with it. I mean I didn't like that Steven and Elyse were liberal because I don't really like the 60s that much and don't agree with them on alot of things. I'm more for what Alex believes.

Actually, I like a lot of the psychedelic garage rock from the 1960s - and I also like lava lamps, incense, and rainbow colours. I'm not too big on the drugs and free love aspect of that era, though.

I have come to respect the conservative side view, upon becoming a fan of Alex P Keaton - and Michael J Fox, for that matter. Even though I may lean liberal in many areas, I like how Alex and his parents still love each other - even if they might disagree on many issues. I try to stear clear away from political message boards, as I don't like political views bashing on either side.

As a girl, do some of Alex's views on gender roles bother you a bit- or do you basically agree with his views on them? I guess what bothers me the most, is his belief that the male should order for the female, without even asking her what she wants. After all, it's her taste buds - and she should be able to decide what she eats.

Well, gee thanks for that. As a Conservative, I really appreciate being let off the hatemonger hook. Who said Conservatives were hatemongers anyway? Conservatives need a fictional character on a sitcom from 25 years ago to prove that they're not.....well, devil worshippers from the sounds of your posts.

You know, I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease. Well, that’s how I feel. He is an absolutely reprehensible person." Or Al Franken saying (on Matt Lauer's show, Letterman and The Daily Show) that Karl Rove and Scooter Libby will probably be executed for treason, or Airbag America radio host Randi Rhodes saying that Bush should be executed (while playing gunshots for sound effects), or Liberal activist Harry Belafonte saying such outrageous things that someone should drop a net over him, or Dem. Senator Harry Reid calling Bush a loser to high school students, or John Kerry saying on 'Meet The Press' that our troops are terrorizing Iraqi women and children or his "botched joke" insinuating that our troops are stoooopid, or Dem. Senator Dick Durbin comparing our troops to Nazi Stormtroopers, or Liberal nutjob Cindy Sheehan saying....forget it, that will take too long (well okay, just one....Sheehan saying that Bush is the world's biggest terrorist), or Howard Dean saying that he hates Republicans because they're evil, or Star Jones saying that we should work with Bin Laden or NY Comptroller Alan Spitzer saying at a college commencement ceremony, as he was introducing Dem. Senator Charles Schumer, that Bush needs a bullet between his eyes, or Bill Maher saying, after the recent assassination attempt on Cheney, that Cheney would be better off dead, or Maher saying that Laura Bush is like Hitler's dog or his remarks defending the terrorists after 9/11 and calling the U.S. cowardly, or Michael Moore calling the Iraqi insurgents "Freedom Fighters", or there's Liberal Moonbat Charlie Sheen and a few others saying that Bush planned and carried out 9/11 or Spike Lee saying that Bush busted the levees during Katrina, or Rosie O'Donnell...now there's a nice voice of Liberal INSANITY. I could go on all day....

It's just the websites like FreeRepublic and FreeConservative are filled with hatemongers who bash liberals and act like America is the number one country in the world. I guess I don't like it when conservatives bash liberals, and I also don't like it when liberals bash conservatives. One thing I appreciate about Michael J Fox is that he is a liberal who doesn't feel the need to bash conservatives. I'm also sick of all these America vs Canada and America vs Europe flame wars that seem to be so prominent over the internet. I'm sick of seeing Americans bashing Canadians and Europeans, and I'm also sick of seeing Canadians and Europeans bashing Americans! I just want all of us to get along, regardless of what your nationality or political persuasion is. Simply put, Americans are just like everyone else in the world. They are no better or no worse than the citizens of any other country in the world. I hate how politics tend to divide humanity.

Got a mental block when it comes to Liberal websites? How about one of the most hateful sites of all, democraticunderground. You want to see some real dirty hate mongering, wander on over there. Just be sure to shower when you're done. They take joy when Conservatives get sick. Case in point, when Conservative radio host and author Laura Ingraham came down with breast cancer about two years ago. The DUmmies were jumping for joy. I read it with my own eyes. In fact, Elizabeth Edwards used to post there, here and there, and stopped because of that thread. Don't tell me Liberals can't be nasty. At Free Republic, I read only prayers and well wishes for Elizabeth Edwards with recent her cancer recurrence.

I happen to think the United States is the greatest country in the world, and I offer no apologies to anyone for that. We help more than any country, have freed people for hundreds of years. I love my country, as everyone should love their country. I don't bash other countries, but yeah, I think mine is the BEST!!!!!!!!

Okay, maybe you like America the best - but it is not objectively the best country in the world. Besides, it's that kind of attitude that gives the American bashers an excuse to bash Americans. Now I will tell you that I'm probably more bothered by the American bashers from Canada and Europe than I am by the people from America who perpetuate the "arrogant and ignorant" American stereotype - because they are often hypocrites who claim to be oh-so-tolerant. The fact is, both groups are radical extremists who happen to occupy opposite ends on the same coin. If any of the "America Sucks" people from Canada or Europe were born in America - they would probably be part of the "America Rules" crowd. Likewise, if any of the "America Rules" people from America were born in Canada or Europe - they would probably be part of the "America Sucks" crowd. I hate how nationalism divides humanity.

During that whole Stem Cell Controversy with Michael J Fox last year - there were some people (from both America and Canada) who felt this need to make such a big deal over MJF's nationality. I mean, who care if Michael J Fox is Canadian or American? He is a human being with feelings and desires - and that is true of everyone, regardless of what side of the border you happened to be born on. Anyway, people don't choose the country they're born in - so it's foolish to look down on people who are from other countries.

As far as Democratic Underground goes, I don't know too much about that website. I've only been there once, and it was admittedly a topic from a Liberal Christian complaining about the anti-Christian bias on that website - and I agree that it's wrong. These days, I try to stay clear away from political websites. Anyway, there are so many more cheerful topics to think about besides politics - like Michael J Fox and Back to the Future.

Interesting that now "there are so many more cheerful topics to think about" since you are the one that brought all of this up. I guess when you get shown just how bad your liberal side of the political spectrum is it's just best to shut the hell up and move on......
