I wish Tom Hanks would have stayed with sitcoms.
I know he's a major celebrity because of his films and not his television work. I understand that. But whenever I see one of his guest appearances in any 80's show that he appeared in (Taxi, Family Ties, Happy Days, not to mention Bosom Buddies) I'm always impressed with how funny he is. I think with the right project, Tom Hanks could have starred in a long running 80s sitcom. He was great in front of a live audience. I just wanted to say it, but always assumed everyone would say "NO, Tom Hanks HAS to be in the movies." So I didn't bother to say it. But while watching the "Family Ties" DVD today, I felt like I should give my opinion on this. Maybe an Uncle Ned spin-off? Tom Hanks was a great sitcom actor. There, I said it. |

this is slightly off topic; but when he did that TAXI episode; he did it for free.

i really dont know if he should have stuck with sitcoms or not but one thing i wish he would do is just make a fun light movie again ever since he won his oscars he or his managers or somebody in his camp have really done us fans of his comedy work a diservice by convincing him to only take oscar worthy movies as a resualt he has lost touch with the kind of stuff that we liked him for in the first place OK TOM YOU DO GREAT DRAMA WE GET IT NOW PLEASE JUST MAKE ONE FUN FILM FOR US FANS WHO WERE THERE AT THE BEGINNING

I have felt this way for years; that Tom Hanks should do more comedy films. Don't get me wrong, he has certainly proven himself as a dramatic actor with movies like Philadelphia and Road to Perdition. But can you honestly call them feel good films?? Remember Splash, Big, and (everyone's favorite) Bachelor Party?? Come on Tom, time for another comedy!!!
