Fads you miss/don't miss? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

One of the threads here gave me an idea for this thread--are there any fads from the past (they don't have to be your generation) that you miss or don't miss? Is there anything you wish would make a comeback or just stay away forever? This can be clothing, music, anything...

Miss: I sort of miss the whole grunge fad

I know many people dislike it, but it was sooo much easier to throw on a flannel shirt and some combat boots and go out the door.

I also miss disco, even though I wasn't around for it. I like the music. Disco seemed like it was pretty fun

Don't miss: Men wearing half-shirts (70's, 80's, early 90's), parachute pants (YUCK), the mullet fad (80's and early 90's).

Haha, I'll think of more later.

I was never one to go with the crowd and follow fads, but I do wish we could bring back some of that 80's style music. Music today, except for country, really doesn't impress me. I also liked those monogrammed bags and stuff. I also wish we could bring back sitcoms instead of reality shows and serialized dramas.

Fads I don't miss: the "Rachel" hairdo, mullets, parachute pants, sideburns and long hair on guys (Wait, I think that's still around.), Cabbage Patch dolls (I'm sorry, but I thought they were ugly.), and quite a few others I'm sure I'll think of later.

Fads I wish would go away: the raunchy clothing that's geared towards kids and teens. It's disgusting.

Also - neon clothing. BLAH.

Although the pastel clothing fad of the 80s makes me nostalgic whenever I think about that time period (think Miami Vice), it is NOT something I want to recreate.

Miss: Neon colored clothing, "Frankie Says Relax" shirts, big hair, crimpy hair, hammer pants, the gumby look(I thought that was pretty cute), the "Clueless" fashion, decal shirts.

Don't: The Rachel haircut(it wasn't cute at all), the macerena, jheri curls, nano/gigi pets, Spice girls craze, furby.

I miss big hair on women...well, some women anyway. I also think that it would have been cool to have been older during the disco era like Number #9 Dream mentioned. I also wish I could have been around in the late 1960's to see The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Doors when they were actually around making music. And to see The Rolling Stones when they were actually good.

I don't miss the entire 90's grunge style at all. I also don't miss mullets.

DON'T MISS: I also hope many of the 80's styles NEVER come back, lol. I was a teenager in the 80's and thought I looked "totally awesome" at the time, but now when I look back, every picture looks like it's Halloween, LOL.

However, I may be the only one in the world, but I DID like the mullet hairdo on guys, but the RIGHT GUY, some guys did look hot with that hairdo back in the day. I also miss big hair, it's easier for me to do because that's what I grew up doing, lol.
I DO MISS scrunchies being in style, I know they can look silly and dated, but they are sooooo much more comfortable than regular elastic bands, lol.
I HOPE capri pants stay around FOREVER instead of being recycled every few decades and called something else. When you start getting older, shorts just don't look so great anymore and capris are great to wear in the summer, lol.

Thank god I'm not the only one who thinks that about mullets. You have to admit, John Stamos and Richard Dean Anderson were pretty damn ****ing SEXY with mullets.

I still remember the first season of Full House in '87, when Stamos had that mullet.

Big hair: Omg, I definitely remember partaking in that fad in the late 80's, early 90's

I can remember one incident very vividly--In 4th or 5th grade, my friend and I were at a local park (it was an ecology center, that had a zoo and everything), and I turn to her and said, 'Come on, let's go in the bathroom and tease our hair.' Bigger was definitely better back then

Hahhaa, memories.

I was a BIG grunge girl back in the day, haahhaa. I looked like such a hobo. I wish I had more pictures from that time, but I was anti-social

Oh, I definitely miss the good music from the 60's and 70's too...I'd give up my left arm to be able to see The Beatles and Zeppelin in their heyday

I love the capri pants too. I hope they never go out of style. I find them more attractive than shorts. I can also wear them to work in the hot weather, unlike shorts.

I love '80s music, since that's when I was a kid. However, I think a lot of the fashions and hairstyles of the '80s-'90s were UGLY!! Leg warmers, acid wash, balloon pants, grunge, mullets, etc. YUCK!!

Those slap bracelets were annoying too. It's a good thing that style went by the wayside because a lot of people took them apart to get to the metal. That way they could cut themselves.

I was born at the tail end of the disco era so had never worn flares until they came back in style in the late '90s. I don't know why they ever went out of style! Loose and flowy, they are so comfortable!!! I will take flare jeans over boot cut jeans any day of the week, no matter if they are in style or not. Comfort means a lot more to me than style, anyway.

I miss the really big bell bottom pants, "we called them Elephant legs".
I also miss the body shirts we wore with low rise jeans, they snapped at the
crotch and stayed tucked in.

I don't miss the tube top or the halter top, its hard to believe we wore those
so much but we did. I also don't miss the white Go Go Boots I used to wear as
a pre-teen.

My mother lived in New York before she got married to my dad and after a night of waitressing, sometimes she'll go to Studio 54 where she met my father(all of places to meet someone.) My dad was this hotshot with the god awful seventies 'soul man' outfit complete with the perfect afro(I never want to see anyone sport that thing, ever!)

How about white guys with huge 'fros?? I recently bought the DVD set of Family and Nancy's ex-husband has the hugest white guy 'fro I've ever seen. Make that second, I think Neal Schon (Journey) had the biggest one.
