I'm sure if you have kids or work with them, this has happened to you...
You're sitting with a group of children. Either they are your own children with their friends, related to you somehow, or you're working with them, it doesn't matter. They are discussing TV shows they like and one of them will inevitably pipe up saying, "I love watching these old shows like Full House, Family Matters, Home Improvement, etc. <list any show you remember watching as a kid here>"
You think to yourself, "Wait a minute... I remember watching these shows back when they origionally aired! They are NOT old!!!" ![]() Has this happened to anyone else or am I just crazy?

Oh god, yes! That has definitely happened to me. Also, I get a lot of the 'No, I don't know who that is', or 'I've never heard of them', when I mention a lot celebrities or bands from the early 90's.

My brother is convinced that Saved By the Bell is an ancient show. I nearly cried. He says, "Come on, that show's so old. It's gotta be from the 80s at least!"
I said, look, first of all, it's from the early 90s, not 80s; and second of all, the 80s weren't THAT long ago!

Oh yeah, I know! When I see peoples' birth years on this board ranging from 1990-1992, I get a little weirded out. Quote:

Fortunately, I haven't had too many problems with the TV show thing. Buuuut... a while back, I think it was before New Years sometime? I was at the mall, people-watching. This girl wearing a letterman jacket walked past me. You know how on letterman jackets, the year of HS graduation will be sewn on one of the sleeves? Well, the sleeve with the girl's year of HS graduation was facing me when she walked by, and guess what it said? 11. As in... 2011. That gal was only in the EIGHTH grade. AGH. I seriously almost started crying right then and there. When I was in eighth grade, she was but a tiny child.(!) |

My god, i'm old.My kids think the shows I used to watch are on the same level as black and white T.V: old as dirt. My oldest had her friends over the house and they went through my DVD collection, they paused when they went through my T.V collections and laughed. I asked them what was so funny and they said something about Martin, The Facts of Life, The Golden Girls, and The Fresh Prince being old. My daughters and I were watching T.V one night and they looked at each other and said "Wow, Roseanne sure is old to be on Nick at Nite, mommy, do you remember that show?" I almost fell out. They even think that Hangin' with Mr. Cooper and Living Single is old! |

I'm a recent career changer and I'm a substitute teacher until I can get a job. I was in a 5th grade classroom a couple weeks ago with a student teacher. He was giving a spelling test and used the word in a sentence and said something like, "O.J. Simpson was on trial for a very long time", one of the kids said, "Who's O.J. Simpson?", the other teacher and I just STARED at eachother for about 30 seconds, LOL!!!!!
Dates of birth also freak me out too. When I was working at a store and we would hire people, some were born in 1990. Even scarier, I just did student teaching in kindergarten and they were born in 2001!!! Some would say, "My birthday is February 18th, 2001" That's when you start to feel like a fossil, LOL

My oldest was born in 2001, I can't believe she's in kindergarten, the last time I was kindergarten, there were NO reality shows, Regan was president, and The Cosby Show wasn't on the air yet! |

Yes, yes, yes!! A little girl I knew from church just loved Nick At Nite. I ended up giving her these old Full House and Step by Step picture books I had bought through the school book club years before. She loved Full House, Fresh Prince and the like, even though "these shows are so old!!"
Ouch, that HURT!!!!
