The H is for hell
Still cannot believe this series hasn't surfaced. I am loving Alias Smith and Jones, the Big Valley is superb, I even like Brisco County, but where is the grandaddy of the modern western? Someone somewhere is missing some big bucks if they aren't going to capitolize on the "TVD" phase with a release as big as Bonanza.Personally I find some of it to be too corny even for me (I prefer Big Valley) but I tip my hat to Bonanza. It would be like making cd's and not releasing the Beatles!! Greene/Landon = Lennon McCartney? Roberts/Blocker = Harrison/Starr? In the world of TV I don't really see that as too big of a stretch. |

They are up to 4th season in Germany. Order it from there if you want it that badly.

Should I really have to......? You can't get more American than the freakin' Ponderosa, if I have to stoop to ordering it from Germany there's just something wrong with that picture...

According to one of the many Bonanza websites I read frequently, CBS Corporation is the distributor of Bonanza and High Chapparel film libraries. CBS Corporation and Andy Klyde, an attorney for Bonanza Ventures (who issue an excellent magazine called Bonanza Gold), are working on a contract to issue Bonanza on DVD in the United States. Yes, it does seem like a no-brainer to put this well-loved western out on DVD, particulary since the westerns were one of the last TV genres to be released on DVD. However, Mr. Klyde wishes to release an outstanding DVD product that all Bonanza fans will be proud to own. Some of the early Bonanza episodes are part of the public domain, so there is a question as to what order the season sets would be released. One of the more popular possibilities is to begin with season three and release season one and two after all the other seasons have been released on DVD. Hang tight, the DVDs are coming in the next few years. |
