I live in NYC and they are called subs or heroes for the most part. However once in Pathmark I saw they had pre wrapped sandwiches on long rolls and they called them hoagies. When I watched the Cosby show and he would say hoagies I figured he meant the sandwiches but I honestly never heard the term until I started watching the Cosby show.

And that's because the term originated from the city of Philadelphia, where Bill Cosby is from-lol

We have subs and hoagies here. We even have a place called Hoagies Hut. You are implying that only HOAGIES are in Philly. They are in other places too. NOW, if you are saying they ORIGINATED in Philly, then that is different, so you better think before you post!

Also Irene I forgot to mention that Theo said to his Dad-"I could sure use a Hoagie" And the fact that it's not called Hoagies in Brooklyn made it a Goof.

I guess I can see what you are saying. If New Yorkers don't call them Hoagies, than supposedly a family who lives in NY shouldn't be calling them that.

In "The Physical" episode,

Cliff tells his own doctor that he has a thing for "Hogies" and ate 4 of them over the weekend, along with "a bottle of large chocolate soda!" I also think this is the one where he talks about putting potato chips on a Hogie to hear the crunching sound. There is at least one episode where he does this! It might be this episode, but I am not sure.
