Default So expensive?

Yes, I know you are getting loads of entertainment, but I really want loads of different box sets and I have no clue how I can afford to buy these.
  • I want Reba, seasons 1 through 4. They are about $30 each on Amazon.ca, making that $120 Canadian plus taxes for all of them.
  • I want the original Saved By The Bell series (not the new class, not the college years). Seasons 1-2 are close to $30. Seasons 3-4 are also about $30. Seasons 5 is about $30. That's another $90 plus tax.
  • I want Married With Children, Season 1. It's about $25 Canadian + tax.
Along with that, there's 25,000 more things I want. So far its about $265 Canadian... and that's a lot just for TV shows.

I'm thinking about buying Reba Seasons 1-4 and Saved By The Bell 1-5 now for about $200 Canadian. Free shipping from Amazon. So with taxes and stuff that would be a bit more, but its not too bad I guess.

Yes, I did this kind of math too & the #s weren't pretty. So outside of The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, which I vowed to collect to the bitter end, I decided to just buy shows I liked when they went on sale. And low & behold, a whole bunch of stuff went on sale at a great store near me (J & R Music World New York City). They had a great sale, many shows from the 70s were marked down to $15-20 a season. For example, I got two seasons of The Jeffersons for $14.99 ea. Surf the web & also check out discount stores near you. Eventually they'll have a great sale, and when they do, buy then. If there is one show you really really want, get a season of that at the best price currently around. Watching a season will likely keep you busy with something nice to view till a good sale comes along.

I'm glad I didn't buy The Brady Bunch DVD's in separate sets, I bought the complete series box set instead when it came out in April. It's a lot cheaper to buy it this way.

If Sony ever decides to put out complete series box sets for The Jeffersons & All in the Family, I'd be more inclined to buy them than the separate season releases.

how close are you to the border? I have a friend in Canada who is less than 30 mins from the US border and will just drive down to Detroit and buy something at Best Buy if it's on sale since it's cheaper to drive to America and get it here than it is to buy it there

I'm nowhere near the border, seeing since Prince Edward Island is surrounded by water.

Your best bet is to just wait until they go on sale - that's how I usually buy what I want, when they are $15-20 a set. Otherwise you'll end up spending a ton of $ and then getting annoyed when you see them on sale later

I just picked up La Femme Nikita at $15 a season - and they usually run here $80 a set. So that was an amazing sale! I had never seen the show so just got season 1 then fell in love with the show and went back before the sale ended to get the rest of the series (4-1/2), season 5 was only 9 or so episodes.

Be sure to watch Best Buy, Target and Amazon for sales. And I just found out that Best Buy has 1-day unadvertised sales on Sundays - I saw Ugly Betty season 1 for $19 and didn't pick it up that Sunday because I didn't have the $ then, and went back that Friday and it was on sale for $30. Bah. That's when I talked to the salesperson and they told me, must've been a 1-day sale because they aren't advertised and only last that Sunday.
