My first name is Monika. It's pronounced like Monica, but spelled with a "k" as a nod to my German relatives.
When I was a kid I was called Hanukkah Monika (even though I am not Jewish) or Harmonika (ha ha). My senior year in high school was when the whole Clinton/Lewinsky thing started. So not only did people call me Monika Lewinsky, I had people saying to me, "Hey Monika, where's Bill?"

I teased for my last name ALL my life. I have a unique last name (and my first name Kristel is spelled uniquely too, but I was never really teased for that like my last name).

Cool! Yeah, my family is Estonian, so I guess it fits! My Dad wanted all of us named with K's. Back in the 80's when I was growing up, it was a little more odd than it is today, but it wasn't too bad. I got teased for my last name more than anything.Quote:

During the middle school years, kids loved to alternatively mess names with sexually-related terms. I remember a couple of boys would say "Moner-Boner." I hated that. Childish kids! Ugh....

people don't make fun of my name, but teachers never say my last name right. and on the first day of school (and during award ceremonies and events), someone will always say it wrong and everyone will laugh. it's very annoying. |

Being 'Crystal Bell', I got it all the time, as I still do. 'Ding a ling' 'ding dong' 'cow bell, etc. Ive heard it ALL. Not to bad anymore, now I usually get Tinker, which I like lol. And a lot of customers feel the need to be all.. 'CRYSTAL CLEAR', because clearly I have never heard that one before.

when i was younger kids used to make a slight alteration in my last name so that part of it was synonymous to the word garbage. it doesnt happen anymore though since i and my peers have a more expanded vocabulary and know that my last name is a common noun meaning something really awesome, at least in the context of having it as your name, and i get complimented on it a lot. ha it's not anything obscene or offensive but people have described it as "hardcore".

Benjamin Franklin. And some people would pronounce my name Bengerman...yeah. They didn't really bother me too much. Ben Franklin was quite brilliant.
