How about a FOL fan convention? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

It it a "brilliant idea" or crazy? Has it ever been done for the show before?

A weekend where fans could get together, have actual in-person discussion forums, socialize, buy/sell trade show memorabilia, meet a cast member(s), etc.?

Could something like this drum up enough participants to actually happen?

What do you guys think?

That would sound nice, however I think it might be hard to pic a place for people to agree on. I think this forum is just fine.

I think that we should most definatley have one. It's not fair that other shows have conventions we should have one too. I'm sure Lisa would come maybe Mindy too. Unfortunatley Nancy wouldn't come in a million years.

It's best to start small and build. And I don't think you'll get much momentum at first, unless the show reappeared on TV regularly.

Sad to say, because I like the show too. But, just probably not gonna happen. As cavalier said, I think the forums are best.

A place would have to be chosen, and of course not everyone would be happy about it, but it's the way it would have to be.

Criteria to be considered would be affordability, when, time of year...

2009, by the way, would be the (get ready to feel old!) 30th anniversary of FOL's debut!

Another idea would be an 80s sitcom convention.

What shows besides Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Sliders, Andromeda .....something, and those other Sci Fi fantasy shows? So far only Sci Fi outer space themed and fantasy lore-based with elves and orcs type shows have conventions(alas Star Trek, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings!)

Jo Jr.--sorry I missed your first post on a conference (I'm new!!).

I think your tour is a great idea!

In terms of a larger gathering, 2009 would be great also because it would give enough time to build an audience (so to speak!). Not to mention that Nancy and Kim's children will be a bit older.

Obviously a commitment from a cast member/cast members would help!

There would have to be enough "fan weekend" participants to cover expenses such as room rentals, admin, any appearance-related fees, etc.

Just something to keep in mind...the end of August might be tough if you want people to bring kids because a lot of school systems start before Labor Day.

Also, if any of the cast is acting, I think the mid/late summer is the time when things generally gear up again in Hollywood.

Since two of the cast members live in Texas (I think Nancy lives in Texas at least part of the time, is that right?), the Lone Star state might be a consideration.

but I'll say it anyway. And I completely agree -- if you are going to dream you might as well dream BIG. Opportunities and experiences this amazing and grand only happen once in a lifetime (if we're lucky maybe a few more). So I say go for it!!!! I know if I definitely had the opportunity -- I would pursue it
