Default Age Difference Between Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford

Looking at The Jeffersons' now I can tell there was a significant age difference between Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford. I can tell now that she was significantly older than Sherman. Some of the seasons she aged especally with the wigs she wore in seasons 5 through 7. I believe they wrote Louise to be older than George. I preferred the Louise on All in the Family and the first season of the Jeffersons. As the show progressed Louise got snobbier and stuck up. She lost her down to earthness about her.

Another thing I did not like about was showing of the cleavage on Isabel Sanford's wardrobe. Some of it was too out there giving that The Jeffersons was a family show. Now Roxie Roker, by standards is a far more attractive woman than Isabel, did not wear low cut tops. As the seasons progressed Roxie became better looking especially when she changed her hairstyle in season 6 in the style of Mary Tyler Moore.

i think isabel was the most attractive person on the show in any season after season 1.
and i love louise personalities in all the season after season 1.
i also watch to see what lousie is wearing every episode . and i love isabel hairstyles or any outfits she has after season 1 and her personalite even in the later years.

It was mainly because the George Jefferson Character had less Gray Hair each season

Isabel Sanford was 20 years older than Sherman Hemsley & Esther Rolle was 19 years older that her Good Times costar, John Amos.

I respect your knowledge of both series but just because you know everything there is to know doesn't mean everyone else does.

I didn't mean any harm when I posted that but your smart-aleck comment was totally uncalled for.

The intent of this topic is now I look at the show with a better view than I did in its original run. Now watching it I do notice a significant age difference between Sherman and Isabel as well I notice between John Amos and Esther Rolle. Those two couples played those roles well as though they could be married to each other in real life.

I guess I always expect someone to post the age difference on this board in a way that is not letting everyone know Guess what I found Out? So if someone posted the fact Like "I was so surprise to find out that Sherman was 20 years younger than Isabel" then It would have just been more conversation about the age difference. So when you posted it like it was NEW INFO i was like-"That's Old News" So if I came off as a smart aleck I apologize

Truthfully watching this series even now knowing about the age difference I can't see it. As was stated above Isabel only looks 60 in the 2 flashback episodes when she resurrects her bun do. I agree that her cleavage showing tops weren't flattering, but as far as looks I didn't think either she nor Roxie Roker was a fox as such. Berlinda Tolbert in season 6 yes (not in the early years she was too plain and not in the 80s her hairstyles were ugly). Honestly the actors in this weren't cast for their looks (although Mike Evans was a good looking guy) which I can appreciate in comparison to most of today's shows where the people (esp the women) have to look a certain way.

I remember being SHOCKED when I first heard that there was a 20+ year gap in their ages. I never would've guessed it. In spite of that, IS and SH made a very believable couple as George and Weezy.

I remember being SHOCKED when Isabel Sanford passed away to find out she was almost 87 years old...which meant that when the Jeffersons started, she was 58 and almost 70 when the show went off the air. I knew there was an age difference between her and Sherman Hemsley but did not realize it was 20 years; she certainly didn't look it on the show...but I DO remember thinking that she was starting to look old when her and Hemsley started doing the Denny's commericals.

And TV fanatic that I am, I am just as surprised to hear that Esther Rolle was nearly 20 years older than John Amos.

FWIW...I always thought Roxie Roker was an attractive woman...very attractive.

During some eps of Season 1, Sherman looked 55 and louise looked 65 with the BUN hairstyle
