Default Favorite Running Gag on Sitcoms

Mine is tied:

1. Bewitched -- Endora (intentionally) constantly calling her son-in-law Darrin by the wrong name...Darwin, Duncan, Dum Dum, Dawson, Dumbo...

2. Mr. Belvedere -- The daughter Heather's best friend Angela (unintentionally) calling Mr. Belvedere by the wrong name...Mr. Butterfinger, Mr. Beetlejuice, Mr. Butterworth...those are the only names I remember.

And don't forget Durwood, Durweed, Dennis, Donald, Duspin...LOL

Good Times-- Councilman Alderman Fred Davis always intentionally getting Wilona's name wrong, calling her Wiomea etc.

All In The Family-- Archie mispronouncing eveyone's name like the Reverend Feltcher, Archie would say Fletcher when corrected Archie would say whatever.

Coach had a drunk maid pop up in different places, I liked her.

Wings, Cheers & Frasier each had hidden characters.

King of the Hill, Dale's wife cheating on him throughout the entire series with John Redcorn.

The depictions of Maris on Frasier. The way she was described throughout the show's run, she couldn't have possibly been human.

I Love Lucy:

Lucy constantly trying to get into showbusiness.

Lucy's mother always calling Ricky by some other name.

Lucy mocking the way Ricky talks.

I forgot about Lucy always using her maiden name to try to get into show business, as well.

Of course, every time one of her schemes backfired, she'd let loose with a loud "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!"

"Sanford and Son"/Grady's being bad at names. Fred's insulting Aunt Esther, his calling Lamont "dummy," and his comebacks to a woman's "Well I never."

Another good one was Hoppy's mangling of black slang and Smitty's correcting him.

Wink

In the interest of full disclosure and complete laziness on my part, lol, I copied and pasted my replies from a similiar thread made about this.

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...hlight=Norm%21

Carlton breaking into that dance he does on Fresh Prince, especially to that Tom Jone's song.

The goofy bird walk of JJ on Good Times. He holds his arms out, wrists pointed downward, with the silliest walk.

Fred Sanford holding putting his hands to his heart, and faking a heart attack. "I'm coming Elizabeth!"

The Dick Van Dyke Show -- When Laurie Petrie was upset, she would break into tears and moan, "Ohhhh Rooobbbb!!!!"

Seinfeld - Elaine Benis would shove someone with both hands and yell, "Get out!"

Good Times - James Evans would act like he was taking his belt off if one of his kids did something wrong. I don't think he ever used it though.

Maude saying, "God will get you for that!" usually to Walter.

On Alice, Flo would tell people to, "Kiss my grits!"

Archie Bunker tossed everyone out of his chair.

Archie calling Edith a dingbat and Mike a meathead.

Good Times - J.J. Evans saying, "DY-NO-MITE!"

Bewitched - Aunt Clara collecting (stealing) doornobs.

Bewitched - Endora calling Darrin everything but Darrin...Darwood, Derwin, Dumbo, etc.

Cheers - Cliff Clavin, the resident know-it-all, starting off sentences with, "It's a little known fact that....."

Cheers - Sam's obsession with his hair and his car was a running gag.

The Carol Burnett Show - At the end of her Variety show every week, Carol signed off by tugging on her earlobe as a loving gesture to her mother.

Welcome Back Kotter - "Up your nose with a rubber hose!"

Eddie Haskell sucking up to "Mrs. Cleaver" on Leave It To Beaver...then being a wiseguy when she wasn't around.

Three's Company - The running gag of Mrs. Roper being sex deprived by Mr. Roper.

Coach - Luther Van Dam (Jerry Van Dyke) loved to eat. He was often munching on a donut or something. That was his thing.

Beckerisms...

Bob always referring to himself in the third person.

Becker's fear of midgets (little people), and his belief that they bring him bad luck.

Becker's obsession with Watergate.

Becker's constant battles with the neighbors in his apartment building.

One of Becker's patients, Mrs. Racino, would always come in his office and ask stupid long, drawn out questions.

Linda's parade of insane boyfriends, although we saw only a handful.

The endless cracks on Reggie's cooking in the diner.

The painter was always there from the start to finish, wasn't he?

Also, a different Motown song opened each episode if I'm not mistaken.
