Your All-Time Favorite Novel?? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Mine is Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. This novel takes place during one of my favorite periods of American history (the 1850 California Gold Rush) and concerns the marriage of a prostitute and a Christian farmer. I've read it a zillion times and have given out dozens of copies of it to nearly all my female relatives and close female friends. But men, don't let that turn you off...I think both sexes, religious people or non-religious people, can take something from this story. Francine Rivers also wrote the novel The Last Sin Eater, which was made into a movie and is in theaters now.

A close second is Catherine Marshall's Christy.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I read it for the first time when I was twelve, and I never get tired of that story. Somehow I ended up buying six versions of Jane Eyre on DVD - but most people aren't as insanely obsessive as I am

Jane Austen's books are always high on my list, but I can't pick a favorite of those.

My mom is CRAZY about Jane Eyre...she watched the recent remake on PBS everytime it aired and had me order the Timothy Dalton version. She also has the Orson Welles version and several copies of the book!!

- Ryan White: My Own Story, by Ryan White and Ann Cunningham. DAMN, I ADORE that book. It really tugs at my heartstrings, AND the ending always makes me cry.

(it's a memoir... Ryan White was famous in the 1980s because he had AIDS. He finally succumbed on 8 April 1990 after losing his battle with AIDS.)

- A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Damn! Karly (Kay Scarpetta) was the one who told me about this book. It is perhaps one of the best-written novels out there. It takes place in early 20th-century Brooklyn, NY, and it follows the main character as she is growing up. This book also gets bonus points for being set in NYC.

My all-time favorite has to be 'I am the Cheese' by Robert Cormier...I loooove that book!

Close second is 'Catcher in the Rye' by J.D. Salinger

Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis. I read this last year for English and fell in love with it. I'm a huge fan of satire so I really like the way Sinclair Lewis wrote.When I have time, like in the summer or something, I'm going to check out some of his other novels.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. Read this one for English too. I loved it. It really made me feel like I was there with the characters.

The Sound and The Fury by William Faulkner. Possibly the most difficult book I have ever read. It was terribly hard to understand in the beginning but after I figured it all out it became incredibly fascinating.

LOL, I know. We Jane Eyre fans are a nutty bunch

I loved the Masterpiece Theatre remake. Timothy Dalton's version was better though

I think I'd have to say it's a toss up between To Kill a Mockingbird, and A Prayer for Owen Meany. I highly recommend both books, if you haven't read them yet.
