Question Getting Rid of Persistent Coughs

I have it up to my neck in persistent coughs. It seems like ever since the last couple of years, I tend to get these lingering on-going dry coughs for weeks on end after my head cold is gone. Why? I tried tea, warm liquids, DayQuil, cough drops, Sucrets, and nothing seems to work.

I am okay when I sit/stand in one location for a while. As soon as I walk from one location to another (in a given room or building), then I start coughing a lot. I am thinking this has something to do with my lungs if this is ongoing. It is getting quite annoying.

I do admit that there are times I neglect taking proper care of my throat by drinking cold drinks (milk, water, juices, etc...). My mom suggests just sticking to warm beverages. I don't know what else to do. What other home remedies do you all recommend? Anyone else have this problem?

Maybe you have allergies or have drainage coming from the inside of your sinuses that tickles your throat.
I thought my DD was asthmatic because of the same cough but she isn't; the doctor Rx'd an antihistamine and she doesn't cough as much.

Thank you for your response, Kazza.

Everytime I cough for weeks on end after my head cold, I tend to get asked if I have allergies. I used to say "no," but I am not sure anymore. Yeah, something sure is tickling my throat, and it is quite annoying. It's difficult talking for an extended period of time during these episodes because I tend to cough after every other word. It's tiring having people ask me over and over, "Are you okay?"

It seems that no matter if there is the outside cold/breezy air or the indoor warm/hot air, neither seems to help relieve this.

I have been drinking warm tea all day, and I still cough. Argh...frustrating...

Yes, sounds like drainage. I was going loony with my child coughing all day like that. Do you still have your tonsils?

Drainage, eh? How can that be taken care of? I've heard of it, but I don't really understand what it is.

Yes, I still have my tonsils. I did think about the possibility that this could be due to my tonsils, but I was always under impression that tonsilitis was due to inflamed tonsils? I dunno...

Drainage is basically when all the gunk from the infections stays in your respiratory system and drips in your throat tickling your tonsils.
Tonsillitis is when your tonsils are infected which is another thing.
If you have too many infections, your doctor can consider removing them to stop the drainage or prescribe medication to get the drainage to stop bothering you as much.

I've had the same thing since my sinus infection, and at some points I'll cough so much until I loose my voice. I've gone to the doctors for allergy shots and I've been taking Antihistamines so that helps.

I got whooping cough - as an adult, 12 years ago, and after that, whenever i was nervous, I would cough . . until a homeopath - months ago - gave me something and I can't say I've coughed ever since!

Shots? Yikes.... But, they work? That's good.

Wow...thank you for posting in my thread! Sorry, but I am just shocked and grateful to see you posting in one of my threads. I almost never see you posting in my threads.

I'm not sure if your coughs have to do with allergies or not.
Yeah, the horrible coughs lingering weeks after a cold is terrible. It just feels like a dry cough. Lately, I have been coughing much more harder that I fear having that dry cough will cause my throat to cough up blood. Yikes...

Yeah, that's what my mom tells me. She's always suggesting to squeeze lemon into my teas. I ought to really ingest more sour things. My voice still sorta sounds different as though I have a cold after two weeks. Weird...

My sinuses drain all the time, like crazy when I have a cold. It's absolutely insane, and most antihistimines don't really work THAT well.
