Default A Case That Really Makes You Consider...

...that UFO's are not from this planet.

Now obviously, most of you are thinking about the case that cannot be explained by any other theory....Fredrick Valentich

I watched this again a few days ago and...I can't explain. I mean, I'm open to any suggestions, but what other theory other than UFO involvement can we come up with.

When I first saw this one, I think it was in the fall of '93. There was always that one image that stood out - that picture that photographer Roy Manifold took. Was the object a UFO? It seemed strange for a UFO...but than again, all UFOs are strange, right.

My father doesn't believe in UFOs but after this case, he just shook his head.

Then, there is that transmission, which ends with those haunting words:

19:06:14 DSJ Melbourne, this is Delta Sierra Juliet. Is there any known traffic below five thousand?

FS Delta Sierra Juliet, no known traffic.

DSJ Delta Sierra Juliet, I am, seems to be a large aircraft below five thousand.

19:06:44 FS Delta Sierra Juliet, What type of aircraft is it?

DSJ Delta Sierra Juliet, I cannot affirm, it is four bright, and it seems to me like landing lights.

19:07 FS Delta Sierra Juliet.

19:07:31 DSJ Melbourne, this is Delta Sierra Juliet, the aircraft has just passed over me at least a thousand feet above.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet, roger, and it is a large aircraft, confirmed?

DSJ Er-unknown, due to the speed it's travelling, is there any air force aircraft in the vicinity?

FS Delta Sierra Juliet, no known aircraft in the vicinity.

19:08:18 DSJ Melbourne, it's approaching now from due east towards me.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet.

19:08:41 DSJ (open microphone for two seconds.)

19:08:48 DSJ Delta Sierra Juliet, it seems to me that he's playing some sort of game, he's flying over me two, three times at speeds I could not identify.

19:09 FS Delta Sierra Juliet, roger, what is your actual level?

DSJ My level is four and a half thousand, four five zero zero.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet and you confirm you cannot identify the aircraft?

DSJ Affirmative.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet, roger, stand by.

19:09:27 DSJ Melbourne, Delta Sierra Juliet, it's not an aircraft it is (open microphone for two seconds).

19:09:42 FS Delta Sierra Juliet, can you describe the -ER- aircraft?

DSJ Delta Sierra Juliet, as it's flying past it's a long shape (open microphone for three seconds) cannot identify more than it has such speed (open microphone for three seconds). It's before me right now Melbourne.

19:10 FS Delta Sierra Juliet, roger and how large would the - er - object be?

19:10:19 DSJ Delta Sierra Juliet, Melbourne, it seems like it's stationary. What I'm doing right now is orbiting and the thing is just orbiting on top of me also. It's got a green light and sort of metallic like, it's all shiny on the outside.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet

19:10:46 DSJ Delta Sierra Juliet (open microphone for three seconds) It's just vanished.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet

19:11 DSJ Melbourne, would you know what kind of aircraft I've got? Is it a military aircraft?

FS Delta Sierra Juliet, Confirm the - er ~ aircraft just vanished.

DSJ Say again.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet, is the aircraft still with you?

DSJ Delta Sierra Juliet; it's (open microphone for two seconds) now approaching from the south-west.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet

1911:50 DSJ Delta Sierra Juliet, the engine is rough-idling. I've got it set at twenty three twenty-four and the thing is coughing.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet, roger, what are your intentions?

DSJ My intentions are - ah - to go to King Island - ah - Melbourne. That strange aircraft is hovering on top of me again (open microphone for two seconds). It is hovering and it's not an aircraft.

FS Delta Sierra Juliet.

1912:28 DSJ Delta Sierra Juliet. Melbourne (open microphone for seventeen seconds).

Strangley enough, Freddrick studied UFOs as a hooby, given what was told to him by the air force. Sadly, his father passed away a few years ago. One of his last words were about going to heaven, that he wasn't sure his son "was where he was going". He never lived to find out what really happened to his son. That was gut wrenching when he said that he had kept the same rental car all those years.

My three questions are basically the same as eveyones

1) What was that strange object that Valentich saw minutes before radio contact was lost?

2) What was that strange green object seen hovering above the Cessna?

3) What was in that picture that Roy Manifold took? A developing mistake?

Perhaps the secret of Frederick Valentich does, in fact, lie many fathoms below the Bass Strait...or perhaps it lies far from out planet, light years beyond our understanding...

I love that story. I remember seeing it on Unsolved Mysteries back in the day. This story isn't as popular in Australia as you'd think. Only people interested in these things would probably know about it. There is a plaque put in place as a tribute to Valentich, but I can't remember where it is exactly though.

I don't really like the UFO segments, but I DID think that this segment was the creepiest UFO segment.

"It's hovering and it's NOT an aircraft." *shiver*

You know, this story could well and truly be a hoax. Is it possible Valentich committed suicide by faking a UFO sighting and crashing into the water despite no wreckage ever being found? He was interested in UFO's wasn't he? This could have been his way of becoming a legend in UFO folklore. The Bass Strait is often used as a route for ships going from Tasmania to Melbourne, notably the Spirit of Tasmania ferry which started in 1993. Also, depending on how far out to sea he was, it may have been possible that this "incident" could have been seen from land. The straight is 250km from north to south and has 2 major populated islands in between, though more closer to Tasmania, King and Flinders Islands. However, the fact that no wreckage was found is still puzzling, the strait is only 50 metres deep at its deepest point. Could Valentich have lied about his location and was really located east or west from the strait?

I forget how it all works out, but a report came out like 10 years later that Valentich was in fact reportedly piloting UFOs

I know a family came forward years later and claimed they saw the plane with a green light above it. Their version had the plane going down, but in an area far away from the search region.

Definitely an intriguing case. It amazes me how basic evidence is botched so often. Here, apparently the tape was lost or erased, I forget which. That includes a loss of the final 17 seconds with the strange sounds that could have been metal on metal. Or metal on alien surface, if you want to go that route.

I love conspiracies so the UFO stuff is always interesting to me, this one of course is very intriguing. does anyone know where I can see the photos that guy took who noticed some weird object in the sky at around the same time as the Valentich incident?

I also liked the Hudson Valley sightings. There were so many people that saw the big ships or whatever they were, in the sky, not just the usual rednecks but everyone in that town. there was one guy that looked pretty credible that said, "there's no way what I saw that came from Earth." I always want to think they're telling the truth, that they would have no reason to lie. I want to see a UFO like that! Something that is just amazing.

Yeah, I also remember reading somewhere (I forget where and what source) that Valentich is alive and well on another planet.....that's just a theory.....if it's true then he could very well maybe be piloting UFOs somewhere.....

This article may be of interest to some of you because it mentions Valentich:

WOW!! this is an old post!....but i want to make a few comments/opinions.

I highly doubt he staged this to become a UFO hero/legend of some sort...a 20 year old pilot with dreams of one day piloting a commercial airliner so why would he commit suicide? i highly doubt it...Plus i bet when the invetigation was done nothing was found that shows that he was suicidal of that he was having any serious problems that would make him suicidal...many people tend to give some sort of clue or start to act strange when they are suicidal

I dont give in too much to the eyewitness account or the Photographers images, the photographer saw nothing and only the camera was able to catch that blemish of "smoke" of what ever it was, it could have been Valentich's plane spitting out fumes (although the blemish does look like a bit like a "disc")

This case baffles me like many of you; However the only possible explanation that i could come to is that he somehow he had engine trouble and crashed into the ocean. Now i know nothing was found as far as wreackage but the plane was not that big and by the time the search team came to investigate the location of his disappearance, the plane could have gone down the ocean and the rest of the pieces could of drifted apart down the Strait. They dont know exactly when the plane went down they can only assume that it went down not long after the last radio contact. But maybe he dint go down after that last radio contact; Maybe he just lost contact and the plane went down LATER after the last radio contact and then the plane went down several miles after his last contact

Or he was just taken by some aliens! ok jk...but this is one of those cases that there is no wrong or right answer, just speculation and a huge cloud of mystery

I wonder if Fredrich was experiencing a "foo fighter attack"?

Interestingly his plane was a small turbo prop. Much like WWII aircraft.

There are also similarities between this case and "triangle disappearances".

Perhaps this case is being handled from the wrong angle..maybe this case is

NOT a UFO phenomenon but another type.

The best the History Channel skeptics could come up with to debunk "Foo Fighters" wassuggesting they were flocks of birds or sun glaring off the wind shield

I can tell you the Hudson Valley sightings were a hoax. They were stunt pilots flying in formation at night, taking off from Stormville Airport near East Fishkill NY. My dad worked w/one of the pilots in this group....in fact the guy invited my dad to fly w/him one of the nights the group flew...and my dad took him up on the invitation! From what I remember my dad telling me, they went up the first few times just to "mess around" but after people started with the UFO stuff...they kept going up just as to see how long they could do it before people figured out that they were just regular planes flying together. As far as I know, the pilots never got in trouble with the FAA or anything....everything was kept "hush hush" and they just never got caught. I know when people started to campout near Stormville Airport to see if it was true that planes were taking off...they went to different airports (Dutchess County, Danbury etc.) and would also depart from different airports seperately and meet up somewhere in the sky....all in order to keep them guessing.

Some people claim that they saw both the planes in formation AND the ufo's flying....they would say they saw them on different nights and could tell the difference between the two i.e "I saw the formation flying on Tues night, and could def tell it was just planes....but on Weds night I saw the UFO's, and it was def something different then what I saw last night, and it def was not planes flying together etc etc" But I think thats just people wanting to believe they saw alien spacecraft.
