I got season three in the mail on Monday. First episode I had to watch was SNAKEBITE, the one where Gage gets bit by the rattlesnake. I can remember watching that episode when it originally aired back in '73. EMERGENCY! is a great show. I hope they release seasons 4 thru 6 also. Other than the great way this show was made, the other thing that impresses me about it is how professional the actors play their parts. Gage and DeSoto were always professionals when on the job, and enjoyed a little fun at the station during the down times. The only one I don't like that much is Julie London, she comes across a little cold. But when you look at Bobby Troup and Robert Fuller, they play their parts so well and those are the type of doctors you would want to be responsible for your care if you ever go to the hospital. When you watch these modern medical shows like ER, the way those people look and act, if you go to the hospital and have those type of doctors assigned to your care, you would have to fear for your own life.

It's been reported that they used the wrong opening credits on the DVD's. The HEAVYWEIGHT episode looks a little rough, like they used an unrestored print of the episode for the DVD. There is one segment of an Emergency! episode that always stands out in my mind. It is when a woman calls the paramedics regarding her young son, I believe he had swallowed ant poison. When Gage and DeSoto arrive, the mother thinks it is not serious and tells them her son always does things for attention. But the crisis is real, Gage & DeSoto tend to the child while convincing the mother her son is not faking. They get the boy to the hospital, but the rescue is in vein and he dies. I'm doing this from memory now, so if I recall, there is a scene then at the hospital where Dr. Brackett gives the woman the bad news that her son didn't make it. Gage and DeSoto attempt to console her, I think one of them says "If you had only called us a little sooner, we might have saved him." The mother is in shock and disbelief, I think she says something like "I thought he only wanted attention." A very sad but powerful Emergency! segment, it's sort of like the boy who cried wolf once too often. I believe this is from the MESSIN AROUND episode. I'll have to watch that ep later and see if what I remember is correct.

I watched the MESSIN AROUND episode, the part where the boy swallows ant poison is not exactly like I remembered it, but pretty close. The end result is the boy dies and his mother thought he was just faking to get attention. A sad case.

A bit of trivia- The part of the boy was played by Lance Kerwin, who went on to star in "James At 15."

There are about ten episodes on the season three DVD's that look like they were taken from syndicated prints. The video quality on those is not quite as good, and the opening credit sequence is the one used in the later seasons. But the episodes do appear to be uncut.

I got mine on the 13th.

Amazon is what I use but you could also try Walmart for the 1st and 2nd seasons. Best Buy, Target and any place that sells dvds.

Last night, I watched the episode AN ENGLISH VISITOR. This is one of those episodes that they took from a syndicated print. The opening credit is different and the sound is not that great, but it does appear to be the complete episode.

When watching Emergency!, I like to check out the street scenes/signage on the road when they are on their way to a rescue. In AN ENGLISH VISITOR, they are en route to a rescue, turn the corner and drive past a gas station. The price of gas on the sign is 41 cents for regular and 44 cents for premium. And those prices were likely considered high in those days. LOL!
