Default Worst car accidents you've witnessed or came upon...

I live on this street where the intersection is two houses away. It is a very busy street, so much so that four years ago the city had to install traffic lights. There had been so many accidents, yet, the worst came AFTER the lights were installed. Only 8 months after the lights were installed, me and my boyfriend heard this tremendous, loud, horrible noise. We hear accidents occurring all the time, we hear cars screeching, cars hitting, etc. but as many as we have heard, this one was explosive. I imagined that a trailer truck had tipped over or had slammed into the brick fence that surrounds the house next to ours. Sadly, a stupid idiot in his truck had run the red light and slammed into a small Mercedes Benz and the Mercedes had been going abt 45 mph at impact. The Mercedes then "flew" into the store parking lot across the street and hit a tree. The woman inside died immediately. I remember rushing to see if the driver was ok. It's a scene I will never forget. I know that at the moment I HEARD that horrific noise, was when that woman's life was being snuffed. That stupid driver received only a broken leg. I remember how the next day flowers, balloons and candles were put on the spot where she died. I put flowers there too. In all the years I have lived here, that was the only fatality that ever occurred in this intersection. But!!!! There is at least one accident every month here. There was another one yesterday. It never gets old.

Not the worst one I've seen, but like you, I live near a busy intersection. I live a little farther away from that intersection, though- one street over. When the sixth Harry Potter book came out, back in July of 2005, I walked down to the mall to pick up a copy. I did that and started back home. In order for me to get to the mall and back, I have to cross that intersection I just mentioned. Well... I was horrified when I saw a LOT of cars lined up, police sirens going off, and such. When I got to the intersection, I saw that two cars had seriously sideswept each other. One car was southbound & in the left-turn lane to turn eastbound, and the other car was northbound & in the left-turn lane to turn westbound when that happened. I don't know the exact details, just that it was a pretty nasty sidesweeping accident. They hit each other so hard that one of the cars lost a tire, and OMG the amount of glass on that intersection. I had to be real careful when I was crossing the street - crazy ****.

A few years ago, my high school tennis team was going to a match on a Saturday morning. We took a suburban and stopped at McDonalds before getting on the interstate. Right before the ramp of the interstate, there's a gas station and a car pulled out of the gas station parking lot like a maniac and plowed into the car in front of us. The car flew over to the other side of the median...I really don't remember the details, but it was so scary because I just kept thinking that if we left McDonalds or the school a few seconds earlier, that could've been us.

You reminded me, when that fatal accident occurred (the one I mentioned above) there was glass strewn EVERYWHERE, but it was really shocking how far the glass flew!!!! The impact of the collision was so great, that glass from the victims' car was strewn at least 75 feet from where the collision occurred. I can only imagine what the victim must have gone through, since her side of the car was totaled. For days thereafter, I contined to find glass in such odd places. Horrific.

by the way, there was another accident in that intersection today.

Worse one...I was in a car accident two days after graduation with my three best friends. The driver was my best friend's boyfriend was driving down a dark road when a dumbass driving a stolen car drove on the wrong damn side of the road and ended up hitting us which caused the car to tumble down a hill outside of Miami, thank god I was in the backseat with my other best friend but sadly, the boyfriend and his girlfriend(my friend since eighth grade) was killed as his head hit the windsheild and she was adjusting her seatbelt which caused her to take off her seatbelt.

In Plaistow, many years ago.. probably 7 or 8 my mother was driving in town running errands and there was a bad accident not 2 min. after she past the intersection. She didnt witness, but it was so bad that one of the drivers body got detached from his head quite a few feet away. Not sure what caused the accident, it was in the middle of the day I believe, so I believe speed since people tend to fly in that area.

The closest thing to an accident I have witnessed was just last night heading home; I was heading eastbound on US 35 from Dayton, the road was icy, and I spun out of control. I spun around 240 degrees (2/3 circle), and when I came to, I was facing oncoming traffic. Fortunately God caused it to happen next to a guardrail so I didn't fall off the road. Plus, I did not see any damage to my car! Plus, with it being 2:00 a. m. I was the only car on the road so no lives were lost!

I have seen other cars off of the road in bad weather before, but since I do not know of the circumstances I do not count them like I did my little "adventure."

I've seen worse ones,, but the one that sticks out in my mind is the one that happened last November the 13th. My mom called me to tell me she and my brother had gotten into an accident, and I could hardly understand her because I could hear my brother screaming in the background. When I got to where the accident was I saw the helicopter taking off - and that was the worst, because I knew it was my brother who was in it. My mom was sitting in the back of an ambulance babbling - she didn't know what she was saying. She'd turned left and the stupid drivers around here see that as a challenge. Instead of slowing down, the guy sped up and hit my mom's car at 60 mph. The car was completely destroyed, but thank God, everyone recovered. My brother was in the hospital for two weeks and in a wheelchair for two months, but no permanent damage. My mom had three broken ribs. I don't think the jerk in the other car had anything but bumps and bruises. That was the worst night of my life.

Since I became a police officers, I've pretty much seen it all when it comes to traffic accidents.

YIKES! I'd be in counseling if I witnessed such an accident.
