Namely, what specific issue of Cosmopolitan magazine was used for the "Plaything" rig-up as a considerably thinner Ralph was holding, eyes bulging, whilst a sideburned Norton was looking on - that is, those familiar with that shot. I assume it had to be within 1973, as that sketch was part of Mr. Gleason's Oct. 11, 1973 variety special . . .

hmm...I thought we were supposed to come to you for those answers
If I remember correctly, the front cover was obviously changed, so the only way to see which issue, would be to check what ad was on the back cover Anyhow, here are some 1973 issues (front covers only) that have been on Ebay recently. http://cgi.ebay.com/1973-1974-COSMOP...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/1973-March-Cosmo...QQcmdZViewItem |

Well, obviously the back ad was for a cigarette brand, with the Surgeon General's warning box on the lower right-hand corner. And it would've definitely been before September or October, issue-wise.

Looking at some sites that have Cosmo photo covers, it appears that the issue Gleason was holding in that still was the September 1973 issue, with Barbara Minty on the cover. Here are a few links:

Another odd coincidence about that "Women's Lib" episode using a magazine issue with Barbara Minty on the cover: Years down the road, she became the third and final Mrs. Steve McQueen, within the last months of his life in 1980. This is relevant due to McQueen and Gleason having co-starred in the 1963 film Soldier in the Rain.
