Songs of the Sea
The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald
Gordon Lightfoot The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they called 'Gitche Gumee' The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead When the skies of November turn gloomy With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty. That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed When the gales of November came early. The ship was the pride of the American side Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most With a crew and good captain well seasoned Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms When they left fully loaded for Cleveland And later that night when the ship's bell rang Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'? The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound And a wave broke over the railing And every man knew, as the captain did too, T'was the witch of November come stealin'. The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait When the Gales of November came slashin'. When afternoon came it was freezin' rain In the face of a hurricane west wind. When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'. Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya. At Seven P.M. a main hatchway caved in, he said Fellas, it's been good t'know ya The captain wired in he had water comin' in And the good ship and crew was in peril. And later that night when his lights went outta sight Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Does any one know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours? The searches all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her. They might have split up or they might have capsized; May have broke deep and took water. And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters. Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings In the rooms of her ice-water mansion. Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams; The islands and bays are for sportsmen. And farther below Lake Ontario Takes in what Lake Erie can send her, And the iron boats go as the mariners all know With the Gales of November remembered. In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed, In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral. The church bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald. The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they call 'Gitche Gumee'. Superior, they said, never gives up her dead When the gales of November come early! |

Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)
Looking Glass There's a port on a western bay And it serves a hundred ships a day Lonely sailors pass the time away And talk about their homes And there's a girl, in this harbor town And she works, laying whiskey down They say "Brandy, fetch another round" She serves them whiskey and wine The sailors say "Brandy, you're a fine girl What a good wife you would be Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor From the sea." Brandy, wears a braided chain Made of finest silver from the north of Spain A locket, that bears the name Of a man that Brandy loved He came, on a summer's day Bringing gifts, from far away But he made it clear, he couldn't stay No harbor was his home The sailors said "Brandy, you're a fine girl What a good wife you would be But my life, my lover, my lady Is the sea." Yeah Brandy used to watch his eyes when he told his sailor's story She could feel the ocean fall and rise, she saw it's raging glory But he had always told the truth, Lord he was an honest man And Brandy does her best to understand At night, when the bars close down Brandy walks through a silent town And loves a man, who's not around She still can hear him say, she hears him say "Brandy, you're a fine girl What a good wife you would be But my life, my lover, my lady Is the sea" "Brandy, you're a fine girl What a good wife you would be But my life, my lover, my lady Is the sea" |

Children Of The Sea
by Black Sabbath In the misty morning, on the edge of time We've lost the rising sun, a final sign As the misty morning rolls away to die Reaching for the stars, we blind the sky We sailed across the air before we learned to fly We thought that it could never end We'd glide above the ground before we learned to run, run Now it seems our world has come undone Oh they say that it's over And it just had to be Ooh they say that it's over We're lost children of the sea, oh We made the mountains shake with laughter as we played Hiding in our corner of the world Then we did the demon dance and rushed to nevermore Threw away the key and locked the door Oh they say that it's over, yeah And it just had to be Yes they say that it's over We're lost children of the sea In the misty morning, on the edge of time We've lost the rising sun, a final sign As the misty morning rolls away to die Reaching for the stars, we blind the sky Oh they say that it's over, yeah And it just had to be Oh they say that it's over Poor lost children of the sea, yeah LOOK OUT! The sky is falling down! LOOK OUT! The world is spinning round and round and round! LOOK OUT! The sun is going black, black LOOK OUT! It's never never never coming back, LOOK OUT! |

Beyond The Sea
Bobby Darin Somewhere beyond the sea, Somewhere waiting for me, My lover stands on golden sands And watches the ships that go sailing. Somewhere beyond the sea She's there watching for me. If I could fly like birds on high Then straight to her arms I'd go sailing It's far beyond the star, It's near beyond the moon. I know beyond a doubt My heart will lead me there soon We'll meet beyond the shore We'll kiss just as before And happy we'll be beyond the sea And never again I'll go sailing I know beyond a doubt My heart will lead me there soon We'll meet, I know, we'll meet beyond the shore We'll kiss just as before And happy we will be beyond the sea And never again I'll go sailing No more sailing So long, sailing, sailing, no more sailing Good-bye, farewell my friend, no more sailing So long sailing, no more sailing No more, farewell... No more sailing |

Ride Captain Ride by Blues Image
Seventy-three men sailed up From the San Francisco Bay, Rolled off of their ship And here's what they had to say. "We're callin' everyone to ride along To another shore, We can laugh our lives away and be free once more." But no one heard them callin', No one came at all, 'Cause they were too busy watchin' Those old raindrops fall. As a storm was blowin' Out on the peaceful sea, Seventy-three men sailed off To history. Ride, captain ride Upon your mystery ship, Be amazed at the friends You have here on your trip. Ride captain ride Upon your mystery ship, On your way to a world That others might have missed. Seventy-three men sailed up From the San Francisco Bay, Got off their ship And here's what they had to say. "We're callin' everyone to ride along To another shore, We can laugh our lives away And be free once more." Ride, captain ride Upon your mystery ship, Be amazed at the friends You have here on your trip. Ride, captain ride Upon your mystery ship, On your way to a world That others might have missed. Ride, captain ride Upon your mystery ship, Be amazed at the friends You have here on your trip |

Sitting on the Dock of the Bay - Ottis Redding
Sittin' in the mornin' sun I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come Watching the ships roll in And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time I left my home in Georgia Headed for the 'Frisco bay 'Cause I've had nothing to live for And look like nothin's gonna come my way So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time Look like nothing's gonna change Everything still remains the same I can't do what ten people tell me to do So I guess I'll remain the same, yes Sittin' here resting my bones And this loneliness won't leave me alone It's two thousand miles I roamed Just to make this dock my home Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time |

"The Ocean" [Count-In: John Bonham] - "We've done four already but now we're steady and then they went: One, two, three, four" Singing in the sunshine, laughing in the rain Hitting on the moonshine, rocking in the grain Ain't no time to pack my bag, my foots outside the door Got a date, I can't be late, for the high hopes hailla ball. Singing to an ocean, I can hear the ocean's roar Play for free, play for me and play a whole lot more, more! Singing about good things and the sun that lights the day I used to sing on the mountains, has the ocean lost it's way. Sitting round singing songs 'til the night turns into day Used to sing on the mountains but the mountains washed away Now I'm singing all my songs to the girl who won my heart She is only three years old and it's a real fine way to start. |

OMD - Sailing On The Seven Seas
You say that love will capture me But not unless you give it free We’re sailing on the seven seas Sister Ray is on TV The light of love it shines so bright That the FBI won’t sleep tonight ‘Cause I’m so in awe of you That I don’t know what to do And I’m sailing on The seven seas so blue Sick and tired and don’t know why Skin and bone won’t touch the sky Sex and lies can’t bring me down ‘Cause I’ve sold my soul all over town ‘Cause I’m so in awe of you That I don’t know what to do And I’m sailing on The seven seas so blue People try to drag us down So we learn to swim before we drown ‘Cause I’m so in awe of you That I don’t know what to do And I’m sailing on The seven seas so blue And I’m so in awe of you That I don’t know what to do And I’m sailing on The seven seas so blue |

Song: Rock the Boat So I'd like to know where, you got the notion said I'd like to know where, you got the notion to rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby rock the boat, don't tip the boat over rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby rock the boat-t-t-t-t Ever since our voyage of love began your touch has thrilled me like the rush of the wind and your arms have held me safe from a rolling sea there's always been a quiet place to harbor you and me Our love is like a ship on the ocean we've been sailing with a cargo full of, love and devotion So I'd like to know where, you got the notion said I'd like to know where, you got the notion To rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby rock the boat, don't tip the boat over rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby rock the boat-t-t-t-t Up to now we sailed through every storm and I've always had your tender lips to keep me warm oh I need to have the strength that flows from you don't let me drift away my dear, when love can see me through Our love is like a ship ... |

Nat King Cole did a great song called
"The Sand and the Sea" If I find peace of mind in the sand and the sea There's a hope in my heart that you'll soon be with me There's a prayer that I share with the sand and the sea And it cries "Come to me, come to me." As my eyes search the skies from the edge of the shore You are here in my arms for a moment or more Then a tear rushes down to the sand and the sea And it cries "Come to me, come to me." But as long as there's sand, as long as there's sea As long as there's time I'll wait hopefully As long as there's heaven up above Let the sand and the sea bring my love to me But as long as there's sand, as long as there's sea As long as there's time I'll wait hopefully As long as there's heaven up above Let the sand and the sea bring my love to me |
