I'm not sure what you mean by more screen time. They were in about the same # of episodes overall. I'm not 100% sure but I think damon was in 13 shows in year 2, I know he did exactly 13 in year 3 and about 8 in year 4. Mike was in 11 in year 1, 12 in year 6, 8 in year 7, 3 in year 8 and 2 in the last season. Since Mike was in 11 of the 13 year 1 shows it seems that if he hadn't quit he would've been a more integral part of the show that Damon was. Also Solomon said that Damon quit because he wanted a raise and they wouldn't give it to him, he wasn't fired. As for the total # of episodes Jenny's appearances were less than both Lionel's combined, odd considering that there's only one season (10) where she wasn't seen.

I Went on tv tome and counted episodes and i got that lionel played by both Domon And Mike were a total of 75 episode out of 253 episode that lionel was seen.
And Mike Evan Played Lionel Jefferson Just only 4 more episode then damon Evan
and last i think the character of lionel could have been use more. could you imagin if there was a third lionel?

and other trivia Sherman hemsley is the only castmember to appear in all 253 episodes. Isabel Sanford is next with 252 episodes then i think cover and roker were in the next most and marla gibb is next in line. and iam not sure but i think bentley has the next then you have jenny and both lionels. and mother jefferson appeard in the least episode

I noticed on tvtome they list the actors who appeared in each particular episode, but in some cases they aren't accurate- they list the entire cast that were regulars at that time or in some cases all the actors whose names ever appeared in the main titles. I counted the appearances by memory. I actually find it interesting how many shows each of them were in. The # of eps they each were in per season is a clue to the rank and salary they got in a particular season (Mike Evans and Paul Benedict seemed to have been paid more than the Willis actors in season 1 for example).
A third Lionel would've been too much. Too bad both actors disliked being in the show as the show would've been even more classic if he'd (esp. Mike) would've stuck around
