I would say the best decade would be the 1980's and the worst the 2000's.

1. 1970s (the best of everything exists here: sitcoms, soaps, crime dramas, medical dramas, game shows, children's shows)
2. 1980s (ranks second solely because of the greatness that is the primetime soap opera) 3. 1960s (escapist sitcoms at their absolute best) 4. 1990s (the second golden age of daytime soap opera) 5. 2000s (the resurgence of the primetime soap opera) 6. 1950s (the early days) |

Even though the 50's and 60's were groundbreaking, and right up there--I think the 'Golden Age' of sitcoms was the 70's (with shows like MASH, Happy Days, Barney Miller, MTM & All in the Family).
I think the current decade is the worst, and that could be because I don't watch as much TV anymore. No particular show kind of stands out for me. The 80's and 90's, had some standouts, like Seinfeld, Family Ties, Friends and a few others--even though I wouldn't call the 80's and 90's sitcom decades, per se. But yeah, I will stick with the '70s as the best, most innovative decade for sitcoms. |
