When I watch Hector deliver his lines, it's as if he's reading Bob's lines. There's the occasional weight crack, but those were kept to a minimum. Towards the end, I see an effort on the writers' part to develop Hector's character a bit. He seemed to me like a toned down version of Bob.

I think in terms of writing, Hector was delivering Bob lines, but Hector lacked the presence and the delivery that Bob had, when Bob walked into the Diner, it was as if he owned it.

I agree with Tiger 100%. I hate when characters are replaced. However, I was oddly enough fine with the Reggie/Chris transition. But that's just me.

Hector was the overweight guy with the long shaggy hair in the final season(s) of Becker. The actor who played him now appears in "LOST" on ABC,.

I liked Bob a little more than Hector.

I think due to the personality of the Bob character, coupled with the fact that he had no last name on the show, he could very well be Bob Saccamanno from Seinfeld. Bob Sac was never actually seen on screen, and Becker's Bob seemed to fit with the crazy schemes/shadyness of Kramer's oft-mentioned buddy. Given that both shows took place in NYC, it is theoretically possible that Bob Saccamanno began to frequent Reggie's Diner in the Bronx after Jerry ended his show.
Food for thought
