My vote goes to Jessica Simpson.
I'm about the same age as her and was in my second year of college when she burst onto the scene with "I Wanna Love You Forever". No, it wasn't a "great" song but an enjoyable, fluffy teen ballad. I remember how she talked about Christianity, faith, virginity, etc. and how much it meant to her to be a role model for young people. She dressed modestly and seemed very down to earth and mature. Once her 2001 CD, "Irresistible" flopped, JS faded from the spotlight until her marriage to Nick Lachey, and then came "Newlyweds". It was all downhill from there. "The Sweetest Sin" video, anyone?? I'm ashamed to admit that I had respect for her and bought her CDs in the past. Why do some people in the spotlight cash in on stupidity at the expense of self-respect?? Now all that's left is a divorce, Daisy Dukes and that stupid, cooing "flirty" voice. What a mess... Don't even get me started on that creepy dad of hers... He used to be a conservative Baptist minister!! I guess selling out runs in the family...

There's a lot of sellout music artists. I can name a lot of them and i don't care who disagrees with me. I don't like artists who do mainstream music and only care about album sales.
Ludacris Ja Rule QTip of A Tribe Called Quest Michael Jackson Beyonce Outkast The Roots Common Jay-Z LL Cool J 50 Cent Kanye West Nas Keith Murray Ceelo of Goodie Mob Slimkid Tre of The Pharcyde Method Man Run DMC There's plenty more artists but i can't think of them right now. |

Not true because there are independent record companies who have artists who don't sell a lot of records and they see more money than the artists that are on major labels. Plus artists who are on independent labels have more creative control and freedom over the type of music they want to do. When a artist is on a major label, the artist is a slave because the people in charge of the record companies force the artists to make wack music because that's what sells. The only reason why wack music sells is because the people that are buying the records don't know what real music is. Ask Prince and Michael Jackson about being on major labels. Prince used to have the word slave written on his face because he was tired of how he was treated at Warner Bros. records and Michael dissed CBS records to the media some years ago.

Fat Joe - He don't give a f about music, all he gives a f about is selling records, and look where he is now?.
Metallica - Tha biggest sellouts of all-time, they never stayed true to their roots as Dave Mustaine said. Even though I ain't no metal dude like I used to be, I gotta give Megadeth some props, they stayed true to their roots, unlike dat whackass band Metallica. |

a) Go bankrupt or b) Are absorbed by a major label Sad, but true. Especially in this day and age of the internet, illegal downloading, etc... |

I know Motown for the longest time was an independent label. Then when times got rough in the '80s, Berry Gordy sold it to MCA. Now I believe it's owned by Polydor. Anyone know for sure??
